What clients don’t tell you.

They signed a release form way back when, and you asked before you started how everything is.

They’re thinking knee pain. Hip. Back.

But what they may not think to tell you is that they started a blood thinner. Or a new medication. Or that they get dizzy when they lie down and get back up.

They may not be hiding anything.

They may simply not know that it matters.

Your intake sheet needs to do more than be a one-time form. It needs to be a living document that gets updated as your clients’ lives change.

This is one of the things I talk about in my online workshop, When Lying Down Isn’t the Answer.

Because sometimes the question isn’t “What hurts?”

It’s “What has changed?”

Comment INTAKE and I’ll send you my intake form that you can use and make your own for your Pilates business.

Pilates has always trained hanging

But.. are you giving it to all clients in every session?

With longevity trending and grip strength becoming buzzy are you looking for ways to add more of this in?

I've always joked that the grip for FITSPRINGS when you are doing arms and abs can get intense and you may feel your hands go into rigor mortis. Of course 2 fire trucks and an ambulance showed up when I did this... don't worry it wasn't for me.

When I change the resistance and change the grip, I change the information the body receives. And when the information changes, the body has to do something different.

That’s one of the reasons I love using FitSprings alongside Pilates.

Why the well?

As I write this I'm having a moment asking myself why we even call it the well of the reformer. Anyways, I went back over my Pilates videos from the last 10 years to see what moves I had used the well for.

If you know me then you know I strongly believe we need to offer more standing balance exercises and less time lying down on our Pilates equipment.

I work with a lot of clients who express concerns about their balance and by the way everyone needs to be working on this.

But it isn't just balance that requires upright movements. Many clients have heart or lung issues and they require a different set up for their Pilates exercises.

Curious to learn more? My "When lying down isn't the answer" one hour video workshop launches soon.

Moves I'd rather do
Than Clamshell

I'm going to rant so stick with me. If one more client comes to me with a handout from their doctor saying do clamshells because your back/hips/knees hurt I will lose my mind.

Today a client in his late 80s came with a list of exercises:
Clamshells
Figure 4
Bridges
Hamstring Stretch

This client has heart and lung issues. Do you know why these moves might not be best for him?

Find out in my online workshop
"When Lying Down Isn't The Answer"

Release date soon! Let me know if you are interested.

How are you getting more range?

I’m not talking about stretching farther.

I’m talking about changing the conditions and seeing what range becomes available when the body has a different job to do.

Getting in a quick workout with Natasha Stokes-Nair | NCPT who came in feeling tightness in her shoulder.

From the reformer to the FitSprings we changed the line of pull to give the body somewhere new and different to work on.

This felt very gyro like which we loved!

If a client asks:
Do you dream this up

Say yes!

I dream that your body is able to go to any class and be able to know how to adapt.

I dream that you have movement epiphanies and realize where you need to work differently .

I dream you never get injured and if you do you come back stronger than ever.

So yes, this is a change in the line of pull and it is asking your body to figure it all out and I dream it works out for you better than unilateral strap work on the reformer lying down.

Pilates Chair + Rotation
Multi Tasking the Body

Life rarely gives your body one job at a time. Right now I'm wrangling a cat who had surgery and writing this caption.

In our day to day we balance while reaching for something. We rotate while our legs are moving. We hold a cat while trying to open up a carrier.

Give your body something to solve and watch how it adapts. It's a miracle I have not been bit!
