I played competitive soccer my entire life, and it filled my cup in a hundred different ways. It gave me an outlet to release my emotions, pushed me to constantly become a better version of myself, satisfied my competitive drive, and surrounded me with an incredible community of family, coaches, and teammates. My soccer career came to an end during my junior year of high school after I tore my ACL, MCL, and meniscus. It didn’t have to be the end, but I fell into a deep depression and gave up on myself. I began binge eating, stopped going to physical therapy, and slowly lost who I was. In about two years, I had gained 60 pounds.
After graduating, I moved for college. I was excited and looked at it as a new beginning, but even just walking from class to class left me extremely out of breath, and that’s when I knew something had to change. Before Burn, I had tried other gyms, but none of them felt right. I had no motivation and constantly found myself wandering, instead of actually working out.
I heard about Burn through a podcaster I listened to. The thought of walking into a new gym terrified me, but I was desperate to get my life back and felt like I had nothing to lose. I was at rock bottom and it was only up from there. I told myself I could do anything for 45 minutes, and if I hated it, I never had to come back. But instead, I never left.
