What a special evening at the University of Scranton ✨

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺 for inviting me to spend the evening exploring dialogue, conflict, and the stories that shape how we see and relate to one another.

So much of how we navigate conflict comes down to our willingness to look beyond our own assumptions.

And what I love most about this work is watching people move beyond simply discussing ideas to reflecting on how they THEMSELVES actually show up as leaders.

A a very special shout-out to the Schemel Forum community for cultivating such a wonderful spirit of intellectual curiosity!

I'm leaving deeply encouraged.

We're making a couple of college stops this month to ask the question: "𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬?"

With so much information and commentary at their fingertips, young people need opportunities to examine ideas, question assumptions, and engage thoughtfully with people they disagree with.

These students are the organizational leaders of tomorrow! How they learn to navigate differences today will shape the cultures they lead tomorrow.

One of the hardest parts of conflict mediation is navigating the world’s secrets.

Conflict is sensitive and confidential.

Often, you’re invited into dynamics that are intimate, complicated, and sometimes even embarrassing.

You find yourself at the crossroads of truths and lies, good intentions and real harm. Throw in a healthy measure of hurt and defensiveness and it gets complicated quite quickly.

And somehow, you’re tasked with navigating it wisely enough that both parties can find some measure of resolution and remain functional. Even when it’s often clear that one side bears more responsibility than the other.

I won’t say this work is easy. But I will say that it’s worth it.

Sometimes the most meaningful work happens in the places no one else will ever know you entered.

Meaningful change is rarely a solo endeavor.

Surround yourself with people who aren’t just talking about the change they want to see, but are doing the work to create it.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟮-𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗿𝗴𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. ❗

In an ideal world, the shared spaces we work and serve in would always be healthy and conflict-free. But even with our best attempts, relational tension is inevitable.

Conflict resolution can be draining, but it doesn't have to be.

When you know how to be strategic about moving two people toward resolution, conflict becomes far more manageable.

Here are two questions that can help you quickly figure out what you're actually dealing with and where to go from there.

And these aren't just for work. They work just as well with friends, family, and relationships too.

Today’s staff training is a wrap!

We dove into the relational skills today’s educators need to meet the evolving needs of students while strengthening the team around them and staying grounded through the demands of the work.

The hardest thing about how quickly our world is changing is that it impacts EVERY area of society. 🏢🏨⛪🏛️🏫

Digital dependence, social disconnection, and growing relational strains are quietly shaping how we do life.

That means being more intentional about strengthening the fabric of the spaces where we live, learn, and work.

Next week, we’ll be partnering with 𝗩𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽 to spend time with local educators digging into the changing dynamics impacting the classroom (digital distraction & attention deficits, behavioral concerns, home-life challenges etc.) and how staff can better support one another and connect with their students.

What a joy to spend the day training a VERY special group of humans.

Today's team was an exceptional mix of nurses, hospital staff & counselors, all there to serve kids experiencing homelessness or coming from situations of abuse or neglect.

Their care was so genuine, and it was clear how passionate they were about making a difference in these kids lives.

I think they may have been my favorite work team this summer. ❤️

Bittersweet to see summer season slowly winding down as we prepare for our final Relational Skills Training with camp staff TOMORROW in Long Island.

It’s been such an enjoyable summer working with young teams and watching them lean into better communication, greater self-awareness, and stronger working habits with one another.

Looking ahead to fall, our focus will be on organizations, nonprofits and ministries. We’re also opening new spaces for our 𝟔-𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩—for leaders ready to go beyond one-time training sessions and build a healthier team culture from the 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗺-𝘂𝗽.

How do you handle challenging people well enough to still have productive exchanges?

The key isn't reacting to the behavior. It's understanding what's driving it.

If you can learn to predict and correctly interpret the behaviors that make everyday interactions so challenging, you can choose productive responses that ultimately spare you the headache of uncessary conflict. ✨
