The moon disappears. And then, somehow, it returns. 🌑
There is an old story about why.
Chandra, the moon god, was cursed by his father-in-law for favoritism and made to diminish. Night after night Chandra began to lose his light.
As he faded, Chandra sought refuge with Lord Shiva.
Shiva received him and placed the weakened crescent in his matted hair. The curse was not simply erased; instead, the moon was given a rhythm. Chandra would wane into darkness—and then grow luminous again.
This gives us a beautiful image for the New Moon.
There are moments when we cannot see what is becoming. When something familiar has diminished, an old cycle has ended, or the next form of our lives has not yet revealed itself.
Darkness does not necessarily mean absence.
Sometimes it means regeneration has already begun.
🌑 NEW MOON RITUAL — SEPTEMBER 10
Join Savanna Smith, Dhruv Singh Khalsa + Adrienne Banks for 75 minutes of practice, sound, mantra and ritual held in the darkness of the New Moon.
We’ll begin gently with yoga, pranayama and a mini yoga nidra before settling in for Dhruv’s immersive gong bath.
As the sound builds and recedes, mantra and optional, consent-based intuitive assists will accompany the practice—an invitation to soften the body enough to listen for what is underneath all the noise.
We’ll close together with a water ceremony, sealing the practice and carrying our intentions beyond the studio.
Like Chandra resting in Shiva’s hair, we practice trusting the darkness before the first sliver of light returns.
