* A Message from Jerry *
After much consideration, after my annual term as Oneida Little League President concludes on October 31st, and after serving as president for the past 3 seasons, I have chosen to not run again for Oneida Little League president for the 2027 season.
I have always believed that you should always leave something better than you found it. As I look back on my time as President, I am proud to say that I believe we have accomplished just that. I took what my predecessors had taught me, and what they left behind and continued to improve the league and the player experience.
Oneida Little League is in a strong position today, not because of any single person, but because of decades of incredible groups of people who have worked together with a shared goal of providing the best possible experience for the kids in our community.
I have been fortunate to work alongside some truly great people during my time with the league. Our board members, coaches, volunteers, sponsors, and countless others have given an incredible amount of their time and energy to make this organization successful. So much of what goes into running our league happens behind the scenes and goes unnoticed by most people. Fields need to be prepared, schedules need to be made, equipment needs to be organized, concessions need to be staffed, problems need to be solved, and countless other things need to happen before a child ever steps onto the field. I have a tremendous amount of respect and appreciation for the people who continue to show up and do that work simply because they care about our kids and our community.
I also want to thank the many parents and families who have supported Oneida Little League and the people who volunteer their time to run it. Your encouragement, patience, and willingness to help have meant a great deal to me and to the organization.
Like any youth sports organization, there have also been challenges. One of the more difficult aspects of this position has been navigating situations involving parents who may not always agree with decisions that are made. While those conversations can sometimes be difficult, I have always tried to remember that most people are coming from a place of wanting what they believe is best for their child. At the same time, the responsibility of league leadership is to make decisions based on what is fair and what is best for the league and all its players, even when those decisions may not make everyone happy.
Although I am stepping away from the President's role, I am not stepping away from Oneida Little League. I still have a couple of years remaining as a parent of a player in the league, and I look forward to continuing to be involved, helping where I can, and supporting the next group of people who take on the responsibility of leading this organization.
Most importantly, I look forward to having a little more time to be a baseball dad and enjoy seeing these kids play.
I am grateful for the friendships I have made, the people I have had the opportunity to work alongside, and everything we have accomplished together.
It has been a privilege to serve as President of Oneida Little League, and I am proud of where the league is today and excited to see where it goes from here. I am confident that the next President will do a tremendous job and keep the positive momentum going!
