The Strong People Living Well class kicked off March 10 at One Health!

Participants received a free biometric screening courtesy of AdventHealth and complete a required fitness test at the start of the program.

After 12 weeks of education and physical fitness programming, both tests are then repeated to measure each participant’s health and fitness progress so they can see real results from their hard work!

The Local Leaders Step Challenge is officially at the halfway point!

Teams from Marion County Public Schools, the Marion County Board of County Commissioners, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Ocala Police Department, the City of Ocala, and the City of Belleview are all competing in this year’s challenge for the AMPlifier Fever Horse.

The Ocala Police Department enters this year’s challenge as the reigning champions, having taken the top spot two years in a row.

With strong participation across agencies, the challenge continues to highlight the power of movement, teamwork, and community-wide wellness. As the second half begins, the momentum is building and every step counts.

MCHD is offering a free eight week Diabetes Self-Management Series from May 4 through June 29 at the Silver Springs Shores Community Center in Ocala. Classes are open to adults age 18 and older who are prediabetic, diabetic, or supporting someone with diabetes.

You'll learn practical strategies for healthier eating, increasing physical activity, monitoring important health numbers, and reducing the risk of complications.

Since April 1, the Active Marion Project (AMP) has brought on the heat with our annual Local Leader Step Challenge—a fun and friendly competition promoting wellness, movement, and community spirit.

The Ocala Police Department has won the AMP step challenge for the last two consecutive years, and Chief Mike Balken is confident they'll win again this year!

The competition has been fierce in 2026! Thank you to all the leaders who are stepping up to lead by example. Let’s keep walking toward a healthier Marion County—together!
