Pineland Farms

Pineland Farms Located in the rolling hills of New Gloucester, Maine, Pineland Farms is a 5,000-acre working farm.

Pineland Center in New Gloucester, Maine was established in 1908 to serve as a home for the mentally handicapped of Maine. At the time of its official closing in 1996, Pineland consisted of a 28-building campus and 1600-plus acres. A large part of the acreage consisted of farmland which had at one time been cultivated to sustain the needs of the Center's staff and residents. Through its real estat

e branch, October Corporation, the Libra Foundation of Portland, Maine purchased the Pineland campus and approximately 900 acres of farmland in June 2000. Since that time, extensive renovation, new construction and additional land purchases have brought both the campus and the farms back to life. The Foundation's vision for the campus is to create a unique community by attracting a variety of non-profit and for-profit businesses, organizations and services to lease space in the buildings. Tenants enjoy amenities on the campus such as a conference center, cafeteria and Outdoor & Fitness Center, as well as access to the farm programs and facilities. The farms have been developed as a self-sustaining nonprofit organization known as Pineland Farms, Inc. Our mission is to enrich Maine’s communities by offering immersive educational opportunities related to agriculture and the natural environment, providing time and space for artists and students to develop their creativity, and encouraging a healthy lifestyle through recreation and the outdoors.

Millie’s favorite event of the year is back! 🐾 Join us and District Forester Shane Duigan on June 10 (4 PM–6 PM) for a tree identification walk in the woods. Learn the basics of forestry and enjoy the fresh air.

This program is so good it even got the stamp of approval from our farm cat, Millie, who famously tagged along for the ride last time. While we can’t promise she’ll make a guest appearance this year—cat schedules are busy, after all—we can promise you'll leave with great tree identification skills. Tag a friend who loves trees (or cats) and come join the fun! 🌲✨
