Thank you Stacia Strong for spending the day with us and helping us see both the holes and the progress that we were missing! No one does this alone and we are grateful to have you on our team! 💓

Thank you Olivia Testa and Cannoli for helping bring it together!

It’s the last day of our Hello, Horse half day beginner summer camp and I think we are doing something right.

I try to teach the skills and then step back to let them carry out tasks independently: problem solving, good struggle, real self-efficacy and real confidence.

The kids are grooming Sparky as a team while I’m really just another fly on the wall listening to the chatter.

They are negotiating who goes next, which section to groom, which brush to use. But mostly, they are talking about Sparky:

Debating about what his blinks, wiggles, and expression changes mean. Gently arguing about what he’s thinking and feeling.

We are on the right track towards a future of safe, empathetic equestrians with a solid foundation, kind leadership and real connection.

Hear, hear!

I’m reminded of the early 2000s when I absolutely tore through the 20+ volumes of the Heartland book series as a young rider.

I can credit it (along with Considering the Horse, Mark Rashid) with helping to form the bedrock of my holistic horsemanship philosophy by introducing me to the idea of wellness centered alternative therapies like TTouch with Linda Tellington-Jones.

I’m seeing more and more coaches talking about rider biomechanics and I LOVE it!

(Positively Dressage was at Chelsea Canedy’s just this last weekend!)

“Push your two pack forward” “Like holding a credit card at the back of your armpit” “Keep the bar level”

I love this stuff! But why does it matter!?

Yesterday we launched our unmounted rider biomechanics summer class by answering that question!

Beneath the traditional dressage training scale is the often unseen horsemanship training pyramid.

You may have heard “Regulate then Educate”.

But there is a middle piece: ORGANIZE!

Regulate >> Organize >> Educate

An organized rider organizes their horse.
An organized horse hears an aid more clearly.

We have a few spots left in our Tuesday morning class where we experiment with how to organize off-horse where there’s no pressure for perfection!
