We are definitely bummed that we made the decision to cancel our Birthday Bash, it’s been a tradition for us, but for us, it was the right decision.
I’m simply not willing to take the chance of bringing the public onto the property.
And yes—I will be the first to admit that I am extremely “sensitive” when I hear the words “confirmed strangles.”
We have lived the nightmare that most people only hear about.
In 2024 we lost Credit the Designer, “Prada,” at only 10 months old to a bastard strangles. She had an internal lesion on her brain. We had her for just 52 days, there was no signs, no fever, no snotty nose, no swelling of the limp nodes. She was what Madi explans as just dull from day one that she was brought to the barn. Hence the word BASTARD. She was the filly of my daughter’s dreams. Prada was related to Rocky and Vinnie she was family.
I will never forget driving 85 MPH yes hauling a trailer trying to get to UC Davis, with my daughter beside me in full-blown tears and panic, praying to God we could get there fast enough.
A few days later UC Davis prepared her for an MRI, and after administering sedation they lost her airway. We lost her. That was a rough one.
So when I say we are sensitive about strangles, there is a reason. We have been there. We have lived it. And we have lost one do to it.
Right now we have foals, yearlings, and several 2-year-olds on site. These young horses do not have the same strong immune systems as mature horses, and their health and safety must come first.
Strangles happens. Trust me I know! We understand that. It is part of the owning horses, and this is unfortunately the season when things can travel quickly through our horse community. We are not judging anyone for the decisions they make for their own horses, barns, or events.
But this is the decision I had to make for us. With confirmed cases with in our community even if “isolated” the risk simply isn’t worth inviting the public to the ranch.
There will be another Birthday Bash.
There will be another Saturday to gather, laugh, compete, and have fun.
We will protect the horses entrusted to us, especially those babies, and we will always err on the side of caution.

We’ve been there. We’ve done it. We’ve suffered a loss in the past. And for us, it just isn’t worth risking our young horses, that this place is there home.
We will see you all October 17th for the Halloween Barrel Bash/ The Road to Vegas Fundraiser. Unfortunately we just don’t have another open weekend available coming into September.
