One of the most important words we must truly learn is believe.
Not just in sports, but in anything we pursue in life, we must have an unshakable belief in ourselves. No matter how many people tell us no or say it’s not possible, our belief in ourselves must be stronger than their doubt. No one has the power to write our future but us.
Thirteen years ago, when I was 17 years old and working at the Galaxy Center in Torrance, I realized that I wanted to make coaching my career. I always dreamed of opening my own facility and running my own training program. It was the one thing that felt right and brought me joy.
Why?
Because when I was eight years old, a coach told me I should try another sport instead. That was the moment a spark ignited in me to put in the work and improve. This is why I do what I do, not to prove them wrong, but to prove myself right.
Thirteen years later, here we are.
I can’t count how many people in the soccer world told me it wouldn’t work, that it would be too hard, or that it would crash and burn. But I don’t allow other people’s opinions to define me. Deep down, the vision was clear, and my belief in what we were building never changed.
