📌 Starting January 1, 2027, standard California concealed carry permits can be issued for up to three years instead of two under Assembly Bill 1948.

The bill passed both chambers without opposition and was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom.

Supporters say the change is less about California becoming pro-gun and more about fixing long renewal backlogs that left some lawful gun owners waiting months—or even years—for appointments.

Current permits will not automatically receive an extra year.

The change applies to qualifying new and renewed permits issued after the law takes effect.

Permit holders will still need to meet California’s training, background check and safety requirements. The longer permit term is expected to save gun owners time and money while reducing the workload for issuing agencies.

I hate the term "stray bullet" as much as I hate the term "accidental shooting".

It's as if people get a pass for being inept, clueless, and ignorant about guns.

That it's the norm we accept that especially in Black, Brown and low income communities, guns are so prevalent in the hands of people who have no regard nor respect for all the lives around them.

A new mother who just turned 20 was shot & killed in the head while sleeping with her 1 year old baby and husband.

People who own guns don't even know how fast bullets go -- we have to explain to students that bullets from pistols travel as fast as 1200 feet/second...4 football fields in a second...and they will absolutely go through sheet metal of a car, window glass, 2x4s, dry wall, and keep going.

We remind students that the final safety rule is to Always know your target, its surroundings and what is beyong.

You are essentially responsible for the entire environment in front of your muzzle.

It's the last rule because it's your last chance -- wherever that bullet goes, you own the consequences. There's no taking it back.

When people don't know or don't care about fi****ms safety, someone's going to pay the price.

Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) permit holder shoots & kills man with a knife in Cerritos restaurant

It was a frightening, chaotic situation as a man crashed a stolen vehicle in a shopping plaza and ran into the kitchen & dining area of a restaurant, bleeding from a self inflicted knife wound to his neck, and still holding the knife.

When confronted by a customer carrying a concealed weapon, to drop the knife, the man was shot & killed after continuing to approach with the knife in hand, according to witnesses.

One of the witnesses, an off duty police officer, did not fire their weapon.

This is a reminder that the decision to intervene or not, and whether to shoot or not, must be made in split seconds.

We don't know what kind of mental state the person was under, but I teach & show videos of how quickly someone with a knife can close distance of 21 feet in 1.5 seconds.

And inside a crowded public space, with people all around, under panic, you better be confident of your shooting skill and not endanger bystanders.

As a CCW trainer, I teach clients any brandishing or use of deadly force will be analyzed by the law:

1. Were you reasonably in imminent fear of great/grave bodily injury for yourself or another person?

2. Were you an innocent party and not the aggressor?

3. Was lesser force not sufficient or available to stop the threat?

4. Did you not have reasonable means of retreat or escape?

Carrying a concealed weapon is a huge responsibility, and this tragic incident is a sobering reminder of the risks, both physical and emotional and potential financial and legal consquences.

Also, carrying in a restaurant serving alcohol is banned under SB2's sensitive locations. Even if this is determined to be justifiable homicide, the person may lose their concealed carry permit for violating SB2. An example of why SB2 doesn't necessarily make us safer.

If you are a CCW permit holder, what would you have done? Take a hard, honest look at yourself, the last time you trained and your awareness and emotional maturity as you answer that.

A man was charged with first-degree murder after police said he shot at a group of people breaking into his car in the Lindenwood Park neighborhood. One 19-year-old was killed and another shot in the back, chest and left arm

St. Louis police said that when officers went to the shooting scene, 39-year-old Timothy Kemper approached them and acknowledged his involvement.

In addition to first-degree murder, Kemper is accused of first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

🕯Statistically, that gun you rushed out to buy is more likely to harm yourself, a loved one or someone you didn't intend to harm rather than actual self defense...
..IF you don't take your responsibility and education seriously.

Anyone without a felony criminal background can buy a gun, with no training and education required, even in as heavily regulated a state as CA.

Most people don't take lessons at all or if they do, it's basic information in a low quality setting.

Most classes out there don't emphasis firearm safety enough or avoiding common mistakes, but just rush through the safety information because people just want to shoot.

We make sure both new and experienced gun owners watch our 3 hour Friendly Intro to Fi****ms video befoee coming to class.

Then we go over the safety rules again to make sure everyone watched and understands why it's so easy for anyone to break the rules through complacency.

People new to guns also learn that triggers are so light, even a toddler can squeeze them.

Also, gun dealers in CA are required to include a free cable lock with every gun sold -- there's no excuse for why this happened because it was totally preventable.
