They’re baaaaaack! 🦟
If you’ve been up to Lake Erie this weekend, you likely noticed the annual Mayfly hatching season has kicked off with the warming of Lake Erie waters!
And while they have a way of bringing the “ick” to most of us humans because aren’t we all just trying to find beach treasures - they are a strong sign of a healthy lake ecosystem, especially as a delicious seasonal food source for local fish - including walleye and yellow perch - as well as birds. Nom, nom, nom.
Since they also have a very short life cycle, they’ll be gone before you know it and back to Mayfly-free beach glassing!
