Beaches Kick Glass

Beaches Kick Glass Avid beach glass hunter. Occasional mudlarker. History ju**ie. Magic maker. I'm a beach/sea glass enthusiast and educator. Plus a whole lot more.

And passionate pursuer of sharing knowledge with others about finding, identifying, and talking about beach glass and various beach combing treasures! I enjoy presenting programs that include historical information on glass, pottery, and other treasures that wash up on beaches around the United States, but especially around Lake Erie in Ohio. My classes also include a hands-on opportunity for stud

ents to touch and see a variety of beach and sea glass, lots of examples of vintage glass and pottery. The presentation also includes discussions on glass rarity and identification. Beaches really do kick glass and I love talking about all of the treasures one can find on them.

My friend, Beverly, who owns Washed Ashore Jewelry in Avon Lake, is having a giant beach glass liquidation sale, June 6 & June 7 from 10:00 to 4:00 both days.

She’s got a garage full of real Lake Erie beach glass collected for decades from both the westside of CLE and selling a collection from Me for Headlands.

She’s located at 32600 Spinnaker Dr. in Avon Lake, OH. Awesome collection to shop from! There is even more than is pictured here.

What a day at the beach! All sorts of treasures!

So while not beach glass specific, beach-glass-being-on-the-beach-adjacent.

Last night after dinner, my boyfriend and I saw a unjulating misty cloud in the sky over Lake Erie which was actually a swarm of midges (aka muffle heads).

Midges are tiny, non-biting aquatic insects, with fluffy antennae, that hatch and emerge when water temperatures reach about 60° each spring. They are also a vital food source for fish and birds. Nom. Nom. Nom.

And as many insects around the lake, while annoying while beachcombing, their presence indicates a healthy, clean lake ecosystem. Just interesting to watch them dance in the sky with a gorgeous sunset as a backdrop. Woohoo!

*A lil’ spicy laugh this morning…

This is how I feel when people tell me beach and sea glass are just trash. While technically they’re right, I still want to collect all the beach treasures because they are so much more than that.

Pretty excited to be in Lake Erie Living Magazine for the third summer in a row to talk about beach glassing along Lake Erie! Plus, my niece, Melany, and a good friend, Beverly, were also interviewed for this article!

Thanks to Lake Erie Living Magazine for the opportunity. Happy Hunting! 🧜‍♀️

Once-plentiful shoreline gems are getting harder to find. Dedicated collectors share why the hunt isn’t over yet—and what keeps the magic alive.

What a blast at Medina County District Library - Highland Branch! What a hidden gem and adorable branch!

We had a class full of experienced beachcombers last night and I was all sorts of impressed! Knowledgeable and enthusiastic!

If you’ve never been to this branch, they’re having their annual Renaissance Faire this weekend if you’re looking for something fun to do! I hear it’s a big deal! Huzzah!

Thanks again! I’ll be back at the Medina County Public Library - Brunswick Branch - on June 25th! Sign up today at www.mcdl.info

Thanks to all of the folks who came out to the delightfully lovely Mentor Public Library!

Despite the rain, we had an engaged group of beach glass enthusiasts, some even bringing found treasures with them to be identified! Honestly, that’s part of the fun in trying to figure out other folks finds.

We covered what is beach glass to talking about a variety of toys and where to search for glass. That and much more! Thanks to everyone who came out! It was a pleasure meeting everyone!
