Extended Air Body Caddis Pupa 🚁🪰
Chasing that trapped-gas, ready-to-pop look that makes caddis pupae so vulnerable in the drift. Working on an extended air body design with a slim profile, translucent segmentation, and just enough movement to suggest an emerging insect fighting its way to the surface. The little details matter when you’re trying to imitate one of trout’s favorite meals.
This one should fish especially well during heavy caddis activity when fish key in on ascending pupae just below the film. Still tweaking proportions and materials, but it’s getting close.

Back at the vise revisiting my swimming mouse fly design. This version uses a foam body cut with the Tomsu mouse cutter, Flyskinz Mice Bitz parts, and Semperfli synthetic rabbit fur to create a realistic swimming profile and natural wake. I also added weight along the bend of the hook so the rear of the fly sits slightly below the surface—just like a real swimming mouse.
The result is a mouse pattern that pushes water, tracks straight, and looks alive during a slow swing or steady strip. Perfect for big trout, bass, and aggressive nighttime eats.

Tying a Swimming Mouse Fly. Swimming mice are one of the coolest natural food sources trout and bass will absolutely crush. 🐭💥
This version was tied using a Tomsu foam mouse cutter, Flyskinz Mice Bitz, Semperfli synthetic rabbit fur, and a little wire on the bend to keep the tail and rear riding slightly below the surface for a more natural swimming posture. The wake this thing pushes is unreal.
