Stonehouse is a classic Mike Strantz design and, as expected, delivers a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable golf experience. The course combines dramatic elevation changes, strategic angles, and bold architectural features that reward thoughtful play while remaining fun and engaging throughout the round. Beyond the layout itself, one of the most encouraging aspects of our visit was learning more about the club's commitment to growing the game and serving its community.
Stonehouse offers several programs and events that help distinguish it from many other public facilities. Among these are six junior golf camps held throughout the summer, providing young players with valuable opportunities to learn the game and develop their skills in a welcoming environment. For adults, the club hosts regular two-man Captain's Choice events, typically scheduled around holidays and occurring roughly once per month.
The staff's enthusiasm for the club and its offerings was evident, and it is clear that Stonehouse is focused on creating opportunities that are laid back, fun for a broad range of golfers, from beginners and casual players to competitive tournament participants.
Golfers should also keep an eye out for Stonehouse's offseason promotions through Golf Moose. These discounted tee time packages provide an excellent opportunity to experience one of Virginia's most unique golf courses at a reduced rate. The arrangement appears to benefit both golfers and the club alike, allowing new players to discover the course while introducing Stonehouse to potential future customers who may not have otherwise made the trip. It's a smart approach that helps expand the club's reach while delivering outstanding value to golfers.
We enjoyed our visit. Favorite holes? Hole 3 - One of the course's signature holes tees up from a scenic plateau limestone retaining wall. Hole 12 - another scenic hole with rolling terrainand bunkers on boths sides of the fairway. And Hole 18 - a stunning finishing hole with a few obstacles and a downhill approach to the finishing green with the clubhouse in the background.
