West Ridge Animal Hospital celebrated the beautiful soul of Dolly Parton by trading in their scrubs for rhinestones, glitter and pink. Books were also donated to the little library out front. 🩷

It has been a busy Fit Club week here at Purrs and Paws Lodge at West Ridge Animal Hospital. We had some familiar furry faces, and some welcomed new ones. All did an amazing job and worked hard. It still amazes me how much the dogs really love it and like doing the exercises on all the equipment. ❤️ it is a great way to give your pooch some extra exercise while they are boarding. Ask about the K9 Fit Club classes when you make your reservations!

If you suspect your dog is suffering from heat stroke, this is a life-threatening medical emergency and you need to act immediately. Here are the steps you should take:

𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆: Get your dog out of the heat and direct sunlight right away. Move them into an air-conditioned building or vehicle, or at least into deep, cool shade.
𝗕𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 (𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆): Wet your dog with cool (not ice-cold) water. You can use a hose, damp towels, or sponges. Focus on their groin, armpits, and paws. Avoid using ice water or freezing cold baths, as this can cause blood vessels to constrict and actually trap heat inside the body.
𝗘𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁): Offer cool, fresh drinking water, but do not force them to drink if they are disoriented, vomiting, or too weak to swallow safely, as water can enter their lungs. You can also wet their tongue.
𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄: Turn on fans, the vehicle's air conditioning, or open windows to help with evaporative cooling.
𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆: Call us right away at West Ridge Animal Hospital at 970-330-7283 (or your nearest emergency veterinary clinic) while you are on your way. Let them know you are coming in with a potential heat stroke case so they can prepare for your arrival.

Even if your dog starts to perk up, veterinary evaluation is critical. Heat stroke can cause severe internal complications, including organ failure and blood clotting disorders, that may not be immediately obvious.

Cocoa has been enjoying her K9 Fit Club Greeley classes while she stays at Purrs and Paws Lodge at West Ridge Animal Hospital. She is such a sweet pup. She loves being able to get out of her run and stretch her legs in class. 🐾🐕❤️
