Summit had his K9 Fit Club Greeley class while he stayed at Purrs and Paws Lodge West Ridge Animal Hospital. He is full of energy and tries really hard to stay still and hold his exercise poses. He has the cardio workout down. 😁🐾🐕♥️ Summit has a great attitude and makes class super fun!

Many dog owners assume a panting pup is just thirsty, but offering a full bowl of water immediately after heavy exercise can actually be quite risky. When a dog gulps down a large volume of liquid while their heart rate is elevated, it puts unnecessary pressure on their digestive system.

1. Wait for their breathing to normalize and their body posture to return to a relaxed state before offering any fluids.
2. Provide water in small, controlled amounts rather than letting them chug from a deep basin.
3. Keep a close eye on their physical state to ensure they are truly cooled down.

Taking these extra minutes to let them recover helps prevent potential stomach issues and keeps their internal systems working comfortably. A little patience goes a long way in ensuring your companion stays safe after a good play session.

Memorial Day is a time to honor all who gave their lives in service to our country — including the four-legged Marines who never came home.

During the Second Battle of Guam in 1944, Doberman Pinschers served beside U.S. Marines as scouts, sentries, and messengers. The dogs of the 2nd and 3rd War Dog Platoons participated in more than 450 patrols, detecting ambushes, locating hidden enemy positions, and protecting sleeping troops.

Among them was Kurt, a Doberman credited with saving the lives of 250 Marines after warning them of an approaching Japanese force. Mortally wounded in the attack that followed, Kurt became the first Marine war dog killed in action on Guam.

By the end of the battle, 25 of the 60 Marine war dogs deployed to Guam had died, and many more were wounded.

The fallen dogs were buried on the island alongside the Marines they served beside. Decades later, after the graves had largely been forgotten, former handler and veterinarian Dr. William Putney worked with the United Doberman Club to create a permanent memorial in their honor.

Dedicated on July 21, 1994 — the 50th anniversary of the battle — the National War Dog Cemetery on Guam became the first official war dog memorial in the United States. At its center stands a bronze sculpture of Kurt titled “Always Faithful,” a tribute to the courage, loyalty, and sacrifice of all military working dogs.

This Memorial Day, we remember them too.

Kat enjoyed her K9 Fit Club Greeley class while staying at Purrs and Paws Lodge at West Ridge Animal Hospital. She is such a sweet and lovable girl. She does a great job with her exercises, stopping in between for a hug. ❤️🐾🐕

Magnus is back! He remembered all of his exercises during his K9 Fit Club Greeley class while staying at Purrs and Paws Lodge West Ridge Animal Hospital. He is so smart and lovable! Magnus is always ready to work hard but he doesn't get too serious. 😁 He can be a class clown and is so much fun to work with. 🫶🐾🐕
