Bentley is a 25-year-old, 16.1-hand warmblood/Thoroughbred cross with a great work ethic who loves affection. He works best with people who can kindly but clearly communicate boundaries because he will sometimes forget to respect personal space when it comes to treats, affection, or how quickly he wants to move. Bentley has a curious and playful nature, and his favorite ways to spend time with humans would include exploring different environments and spaces, different challenges to his athleticism, and learning new tricks and games. He also does well in the ring and at shows. He trailer loads without a problem and welcomes extensive grooming, braiding, and even costuming for shows, events, or just for fun, especially if there are treats involved. While he sometimes acts like a do**us when he’s overexcited or doesn’t want to do something, he is quite smart and responds well to trick training. He extremely responsive to both physical and verbal cues in saddle and in hand, but can be stubborn and will test boundaries if he is bored or unsure. Bentley is a powerhouse who wants to please and will rush into what he thinks his partner wants, especially if speed is involved, so he’s not a good match for timid riders. He will also shut down or ignore riders who are too heavy on the bit or too reactionary. Bentley is older and does have some hoof and joint issues, so while he is willing to jump and speed around, he needs to be limited in these activities to avoid further injury. The best match for Bentley is a reasonably confident rider who values building a relationship, enjoys mindful athletic growth, and can meet challenges with patience and humor. Bentley is available for lease for several days each week, timing flexible, for $ 300-400 a month, depending on frequency. Leasing includes use of all tack and supplies. Use of any other saddle or tack must be approved by Amanda. Leasor must agree to take weekly lessons at Whip-O-Will Stables, follow all barn rules, and respect any changes or limitations due to health or medical concerns.
