STAT SPOTLIGHT: WALKS ⚾

Walks are often overlooked when evaluating hitters, but they can reveal a lot about a player's approach at the plate.

A walk doesn't just put a runner on base—it extends the at-bat, increases pitch counts, and forces pitchers to work harder. Over the course of a game, those extra pitches and added pressure can make a real difference.

That's why many coaches look beyond hits alone and pay attention to which hitters consistently find ways to reach base and make pitchers earn every out.

How much value do you place on walks when evaluating offensive performance?

“Fielded cleanly. Everyone’s safe… so it’s a hit, right?”

Not so fast.

Runner on 2nd, 1 out. Routine ground ball to shortstop. Clean field. The SS *has* an easy out at 1st — but instead throws to 3rd to try for the lead runner.

Throw is on target. Play is made cleanly at 3rd. Everyone ends up safe at the end.

So what’s the call?

FIELDER’S CHOICE

Because batter didn’t reach due to a hit — he reached because the defense chose a different play instead of taking the guaranteed out at 1st.

This is where scoring gets misunderstood:

- Safe ≠ hit
- No error ≠ hit
- The key is if an out was available and taken.

Get this wrong and you:

- inflate offensive stats
- miss defensive decision-making
- misread the play entirely

What would you have scored it as?

FAQ: Does PlayMaker save my game if I lose service?

Yes — the scoring interface saves automatically as scores are entered.

If you lose service during a game, your progress remains saved. Once your connection returns, everything syncs automatically in the background.

That means less stress on game day and no need to worry about losing important scoring data because of spotty cell service.

How do PlayMaker’s highlight clips work? Can I download them?

Highlight clips in PlayMaker are generated automatically in real time after each play. Families can opt in to receive notifications whenever their player makes a play.

To view clips, users can go to the play-by-play feed, find the specific play, and watch, download, or share the highlight directly. After games, all plate appearance clips are also organized inside each player’s PlayMaker profile for easy access.

This means every key moment stays accessible during the game and long after it ends—no digging, no lost footage, no missed plays.

STAT SPOTLIGHT: RBI ⚾

RBIs are one of baseball’s most recognized offensive stats because they measure run production — but they don’t always tell the full story on their own.

A hitter’s RBI total is heavily influenced by opportunity. More runners on base means more chances to drive runs in.

That’s why coaches often look at RBIs alongside situational stats like performance with runners in scoring position and runners left on base to better understand offensive impact.

How much weight do you give RBIs when evaluating hitters?

5/31/96: Albert Belle knocks Viña down to break up a double play in the top of the eighth inning.

Some baseball moments feel impossible to forget.

Albert Belle charging through Fernando Viña at second base is definitely one of them 😳

Clean? Dirty? Just hard baseball?
