Slugging percentage: the stat that separates contact from damage.

Two hitters. Same lineup spot. Very different value.

Player A: .350 BA / .425 SLG
Player B: .275 BA / .550 SLG

Player A puts the bat on the ball more. Player B does more damage every time he connects.

Doubles, triples, and homers rack up total bases that singles can't touch, and that's the whole story slugging percentage tells that batting average leaves out.

BA shows you how often. SLG shows you how hard.

Look at both, and you get the real picture of what a hitter brings to the lineup.
