Summer Arsenal Development Dylan Hansen ๐โโ๏ธ๐
Our focus with Dylan this summer was to improve the quality of his pitch profiles while building more consistent strike and target ex*****on across the arsenal.
From the first to second half of the summer, overall Zone% increased from 27.9% โ 35.5%, with the fastball improving 30.9% โ 39.4% and the slider 25.5% โ 36.2%.
The pitch-design work showed meaningful progress as well. The slider reduced its arm-side movement from +3.5โโ -0.4โ HB, creating a more consistent breaking-ball profile. The splitter added significant depth, moving from 11.2โโ 3.1โ IVB and increasing its vertical break differential off the fastball from 4.5โโ 12.8โ.
Those shape changes were paired with improved target ex*****on. Each pitch was assigned a specific Attack Zone based on where we wanted that pitch to be executed, allowing us to measure more than whether or not the pitch finished inside the strike zone.
Attack Zone% increased from 21.8% โ 31.9% overall, including 24.0% โ 41.3% with the slider and 19.2% โ
47.8% with the splitter. Splitter average miss distance from its intended target also decreased from 7.1โโ 3.3โ, and the slider also decreased from 9.6โโ 6.1โ
The goal throughout the summer was to develop better pitch shapes without separating pitch design from the ability to execute them.
