Sawtooth Masters SawtoothMasters (SAWS) swim club is a fun group of swimmers of all abilities age 18+. We have coached workouts 5 days a week. Come swim with us!

US Masters Swimming Membership required. SawtoothMasters (SAWS) swim club holds membership in United States Masters Swimming (USMS), a national organization that provides organized workouts, competitions, clinics and workshops for adults aged 18 and over. USMS is administered locally by 53 Local Masters Swim Committees (LMSCs) located in 9 geographic zones across the US. Prospective members and cl

ubs join USMS through their LMSC. SAWS is one of four registered clubs within the Snake River LMSC. SAWS is in the Northwest Zone. A membership in SAWS is a membership in USMS, and allows individuals to compete in USMS sanctioned events. The Treasure Valley Family YMCA (the Y)supports SAWS by encouraging individual health and well-being through swimming. Participation in scheduled workouts requires membership in the Y, or payment for individual sessions. The Y provides a coach for the scheduled sessions. The Y sponsors its own competitions, and co-hosts USMS sanctioned competitive events with SAWS, offering use of their outstanding facilities. Swimming with SAWS in a structured, coached workout with others provides the greatest benefit. As an individual, you may choose to join SAWS and enjoy the camaraderie and structure of the group or you may choose to remain unattached. Unattached swimmers attending scheduled coached sessions at the Y enjoy all of the benefits of USMS membership, except they cannot compete in USMS sanctioned competitions. The motivation and instruction a coach provides is a powerful advantage. Our workouts emphasize group interval training, which has innumerable benefits over simple lap swimming. The friendly faces and camaraderie is an incentive to get you in the pool, avoiding skipped workouts. SAWS is a diverse group of individuals including National Record Holders, triathletes, and recreational swimmers. A friendly competitive atmosphere at all levels encourages personal improvement. Ultimately, you are in charge of your own program, and SAWS will help you succeed!

Fish Out of Water Update!

Sawtooth Masters Coach Kurt Baron and Coach Loren traded their swimsuits for bike helmets on Saturday and completed the Cycle for Independence Metric Century Ride, benefiting the National Federation of the Blind of Idaho, Treasure Valley Chapter.

It was a classic Idaho day—beautiful, sunny, and just windy enough to keep things interesting!

We’re also pretty sure we had a rare Strava-Ryan Larson sighting. 👀😂

Broadside Harbor is a private water ski lake reserved just for us on Saturday, June 20! This is a USMS sanctioned event with safety kayakers and plenty of support staff to help as needed! It’s a great event for swimmers new to open water swimming and challenging enough for those that want to push themselves! Register by June 5 to get an event shirt included in your entry price. What started as a perfect swim at Quinn’s Pond quickly turned into “English Channel wind tunnel simulator mode.”

The water was smooth as glass while Christine Turpin tackled a 6-hour swim as part of her English Channel training. Ryan was out on the paddle board doing support duty. Jill kept her company in the water as pace buddy. Perfect day, right?

Then… with only minutes left in the swim, the weather decided to add a little extra realism. 🌪️🌊

Suddenly: Trees were toppling
The pond was white-capping
And the porta potties were… no longer upright participants in the event....barf

Honestly, you can’t buy gale-force wind training like that.

Huge kudos to Chrissy for getting out safely just in time and crushing an epic training day!

This grant model promotes community pride, and each of our chapters has a beneficiary(ies) within the community where donations are granted. Our grants support doctors, researchers, and projects with the potential for breakthroughs and for follow-up funding.

Open Water Swim Fun at Quinn’s Pond!

Join coach Loren, Jill, and Christine Turpin tomorrow, Monday 25th at 8:00 AM for a fun and welcoming open water swim at Quinn’s Pond!

Whether you want an easy 30-minute dip or you’re feeling adventurous and want to join Chrissy for a 3+ hour swim, there’s a spot for everyone.

Please bring: Tow float/swim buoy and a bright swim cap

Wetsuits are optional… fun is mandatory! 😄

All paces and experience levels are welcome. Come enjoy the water, sunshine, and great company with your Sawtooth Masters friends!
