Double L Ranch We are a training, riding, and boarding facility for horses, mules, and donkeys in Bishop, CA. It is owned and operated by Diana Laird and Linda Laird.

The Double L Ranch is a private training and riding facility located in the beautiful Eastern High Sierra. At the Double L Ranch, we teach riding with a focus on complete horsemanship. Our Professional Staff has been trained in all phases of Horsemanship. We are located eight miles north of Bishop, CA the Mule capital of the world. We train both horses and mules. Lessons are private or group and s

tudents range from age four to 74!!!! We are all committed to working with our students to reach their goals.We have top quality lesson horses, for those of you who don't have a horse.

Just a proud dad and his daughter. This was Clara’s first big show - and she held her own! Clara has been riding with us for almost a year now, and at first she was very shy and quiet. It’s been lovely to see her confidence grow. She is such a good rider, and as she’ll herself tell you, just turned 7! Pretty Mary Kaye shows off her halter wins this last weekend at the Bear valley buckaroos summer showdown! She swept her classes, earning her the title of grand champion halter mule for the weekend. Our team rider Allison is very proud of her newest, youngest, and most wiggly in the halter arena member of our mule team! Mary Kaye stood very nicely for her victory pictures, although if you look closely you might see that one of those blues does have a chunk taken out of it from hanging a little too close to her curious baby mouth on the halter! 😉🤣

Our show team had a fabulous time at the 5th annual Western States Mule and Donkey spectacular!

Allison showed her new mule, Pretty MaryKaye, for the first time at this show, taking home the high point champion ribbon in the pre-green division. Most importantly, this duo had so much fun and is looking forward to years of showing together to come!

Our youth rider, Summer, had the tall task of showing two mules this show, and, with help from her team, including her awesome show mom Cat, she did so beautifully. She took home the high point champion in the youth performance on Max and reserve champion in both the pre green division and the gymkhana on her new mule, Picasso on the Spot!

Vickie Powers, our most veteran member of the show team held her own as always, taking reserve champion in the nonpro and showing her beautiful mover, Halle Berry, well.

Not to be left behind, Carly Tryon and Heart B Oliver had their game faces on to take home some very competitive blues in the reining and english equitation in our most competitive division, the amateurs. This team is truly dialed as a unit and as competitors, and we are so proud to get to go down the road together!

We can’t wait to do this again next year! ❤️🫏🐴

Here is another member of our show team who razzle-dazzled at Mule Days - meet Alison! Alison shows Oliver, our charming workaholic with the expressive face (see a few posts back). But Alison also very recently acquired her very own mule - the stunning “Pretty Mary Kay.” And MK certainly lives up to her name, she is stunning, charming, and ever a lady.

Alison and MK showed together for the first time at Mule Days, and managed the impressive feat of placing 6th in the giant halter class - and then, went ahead and scored first place in halter for quarter horse type mules! This is a huge accomplishment, being that MK is only 6 years old and has her big baby moments (although, always very gracefully so).

If you have never shown halter, you might not know how difficult it is to get a giant animal to stand still and look pretty for what feels like a very long time - y’all just going to have to trust us on this. Or come out to the ranch and try for yourself.

Alison and MK showed their mettle, and as their relationship deepens and their training evolves, you can be sure that those two elegant ladies will keep scoring ribbons in all sorts of classes. 🐴🫏
