I just gotta give a shout out to this mule really quick.

Most of you know the man, the myth, the legend - Chuck the mule. Three years ago Chuck came to me as a mule with little known about him except for this - he was extremely anxious and he wasn’t afraid to show it. Chuck was an animal you couldn’t (or didn’t want to) touch past his shoulder.

I spent a solid month showing him he could be touched without it being a big deal. He started to allow it, and he was rewarded with the most minuscule try. Eventually we got to the point where he would allow me to saddle him and ride him.

Slowly his walls started to come down and his foundation started. One of the things that helped turn Chuck around after the first month was the backcountry. He loved the trails. I would pony him every evening and every evening he didn’t want to go home. From that point he started to try more and more. He found something that made him happy - and as most of us know, having something to look forward to can change how we process our anxiety.

Chuck came back to training in February after about a year and a half break. We had to re establish our relationship and we had to work through some of the ups and downs that you get with the mules. Last weekend it all came full circle. Chuck got to explore the backcountry as a riding mule! I couldn’t be more proud of how far this mule has come and how much love and dedication he has gotten from his owner Ami McBride ❤️

We had a great weekend training in the Eastern Sierra!

Some of the animals in training got a chance to put all their skills to the test in some of the more advanced trails our area has to offer.

Creek crossings, packing, granite staircases, waterfall crests, backpackers, dogs…EDUCATION.

I am super proud of all the animals who went out last weekend. They have proven growth beyond measure and I am so proud of all of them!

Best mule reward ever!

This little Mule has come along way since he first came to me. He is the first mule I’ve started since my accident and he has been a joy to work with. He is for sale only to the right home and while we will not be showing, we will be cruising .

We are getting closer!

Join me next Thursday at 11 am in the Bishop Mule Days Celebration clinic pen for my talk on how to help today's youth 'make mine a mule'. We will be exploring how mules versatility allows for kids to find their niche within the riding community.

Hope to see everyone there!

Grace tells us why she makes hers a mule!

Grace is one of my essay contest winners this year! It’s been a joy watching her grow as a rider and young lady this year. Grace, like me, finds that riding helps with some of the anxiety that she deals with.

Our long eared friends provide us with so many outlets that we can be grateful for on a daily basis.
