Fall in the Eastern Sierra is a pretty special kind of magic. The willows turn golden, the fireweed glows red, and the wind dances across the high country. As the sun hangs lower in the sky, everything is washed in warm, golden light that makes the Sierra feel almost dreamlike.

Plan ahead and prepare for the changing mountain weather. Bring plenty of layers for chilly mornings, gusty afternoons, and those beautiful golden hours. Need some good layers? Stop by Eastside Sports and gear up for the season.

And as those wind gusts 💨 come in without notification, hang on to your trash and pack out everything you pack in to help keep these wild places beautiful for those who come after us.

🧗‍♀️Back to climbing in the Owens River Gorge! Those cooler mornings are making the shady north side climbable again, at least until the sun finds you. We even squeezed in a couple of routes on the south side this morning before the sun appeared.

🪢As we ease back into Gorge season, it’s a good reminder to tie knots at the rope’s end, wear your helmet, double check your partner’s knot/device and expect a little more grit from above as things wake up after the summer.

🌱There’s also plenty of overgrown brush, nettles, and thistle around the approaches. Bring some gloves and tools to help with a little trail clearing.

💩And.. sweet reminder to take out those dog p**p bags if you use them.

🪨 Let’s get the Gorge cleaned up and ready for another great season of climbing!

The first hints of autumn are lighting up the Sierra, the lakes are crystal clear, and the pikas are busy cutting and drying their little hay piles for winter. The crowds are thinning, and the Sierra is settling into its quieter season.

A journey up to the peaceful Tamarack Lakes and Buck Lake zone reveals that unmistakable early fall magic, crisp mornings, golden meadows, and big mountain views around every corner.

The high country is calling.

Sometimes, we go for easy hikes. Other times, we do the Mount Williamson - Mount Tyndall double.
Those two 14ers are just the right mix of fun and a little bit sufferfest. Camping up there is definitely worth hauling all the gear over Shepherd Pass. The sunrises and sunsets are spectacular!

Keep in mind that both mountains are only accessible via scrambling or climbing routes. There are no trails up there.
