Paused bench press: less momentum, more strength.
Another September benchmark: 3-rep bench press with a pause.
Why the pause?
Because small changes in how we train create a new challenge.
Pausing on the chest takes away some of the bounce and momentum you get in a normal bench press. You have to stay tight, control the weight, and produce force from a dead stop.
That helps build strength where people often struggle most.
It also gives us another way to progress without doing the exact same lift the exact same way all year.
Different variations.
Different stimulus.
Continued adaptation.
That’s how strength gets built over time.
