Our NVC SXS ride is Saturday Nov. 14th. Since we close at noon on Saturdays and some employees want to go, we will have a later start than ideal. Daylight savings time might end up getting back after dark. Sunset is just before 5:00 that day. Ideally a Sunday would be better this time of year to be able to start sooner. Please give yourself enough time to unload and sign in. We will be leaving at 12:00 or very shortly after.
This route is just over 100 miles and it took me right at 4 hours with very little stopping time. We are planning on riding to Casey first for a little break. Casey Creamery is a great ice cream stop or run into Tin Lizzys for a bite to eat or grab something to drink. Everyone is free to stay as long as they like but we will probably only stop for about 30-45 minutes just so we can keep rolling.
Next stop is Exira which there again, we will probably stick around there for 45 minutes or so as well. Just like in Casey, you can hang out in Exira as long as you want. We just want to get back before dark. Depending on how you are doing for fuel, you may need to top off. Exira also has an ice cream shop and as well as TJ's bar.
This is a great route with quite a few level B roads. There is less than a mile of highway on the entire route. We have no idea how many SXS's will be on this ride so it could be a longer ride for people towards the back. Hopefully it's not terribly dusty. Nobody is obligated to follow us. If you want to zig when we zag, feel free and do your own thing. We will have paper maps available as well as a link to the route on the OnX Offroad app.
Remember, you aren't obligated to follow along the entire way. If you feel you don't like something about the route feel free to break away and do your own thing. We don't want to hear you should have done this or shouldn't have done that. We just have a short window of daylight and want to make the best of it. Next year we will be more on top of it and plan an earlier ride.
Since a majority of people will be pulling trailers here, we ask you park with consideration, many more trailers may need to park. We have a huge parking lot so we ask you to start parking towards the back NE corner of the lot and go from there.
When you get here please come inside and sign in. 2 reasons, it will give us an idea on a head count and we will also have door prizes. You don't need to be present to win. We will put everyone's in a drawing and do it like we do our 12 days of Christmas. We will have cookies and bottles of water by the sign in sheet.
There is one section north of Adair that we may need to detour around. You can see it on this map. That stretch of level B road is awesome but it appears the county is in the process of making it gravel. I was able to pass through ok but there was quite a bit of heavy equipment through there. Hopefully it's opened back up by then.
We are hoping for great weather and not a lot of dust but who knows, we are in Iowa after all, we have have snow on the ground. We look forward to this 100 mile ride and hope everyone enjoys it.
On one last note, NISHNA VALLEY CYCLE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ACTIONS YOU MAY CHOOSE TO DO! We are just out for a casual Saturday afternoon cruise. If you choose to do something stupid, it's on you.
With all that being said, we will see you Saturday Nov. 14th!
If you have and questions call the shop and ask for Chris or Nate.
