Attention, Iowa trail lovers!
Today at noon, join Rails to Trails Conservancy (RTC) for a celebration of 5 years of incredible progress for the Great American Rail-Trail, which is a cross-country trail spanning more than 3,700 miles from Washington State to Washington, D.C.
In Iowa, the route is more than 50% complete, with 251.4 of the total 463.6 miles already in existence.

"When RTC announced the route of the cross-country trail in 2019, people from across the country came together to mark the moment when the idea for this iconic piece of American infrastructure was introduced. At the time, it was hard to envision the nation’s outpouring of enthusiasm for this trail across the country—the first entirely bikeable route that is separated from vehicle traffic across the continent.
On Dec. 17, we’ll dig into the impact that this vision has had and the progress that’s been made to complete the route. From hundreds of millions of dollars in investment, to new miles and connections made, economic opportunities tapped, and bikepacking adventures unlocked, we’ll explore the ways that the Great American Rail-Trail is transforming the country.
During this event, we’ll be featuring the Leafline Trails Network, Bainbridge Island, Warrior Expeditions, Steubenville Ohio, Strong Towns Steubenville, First Ave / Council Bluffs, and Omaha."
