The Ballston CrossFit (BCF) team has always had a passion for sports, health and fitness. Our gym and workout programs are completely designed around driving results for our members. CrossFit coaches lead members through an hour long workout of the day (WOD), coaching athletes on technique and encouraging you to work hard. We provide the best in fitness training, coaching and programming for all f

itness levels (our workouts are scalable so everyone can be challenged and get fit). Our program efficiently combines the most effective methods of Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, kettlebells and high intensity cardio. At Ballston CrossFit you will be challenged and motivated every day with constantly varied high intensity functional workouts, resulting in a greatly enhanced level of fitness. To us, fitness is a state of mind, a way of living. It shows up in the way you talk, walk, sleep, eat, work, play, dress and relax. It is the physical embodiment of the character traits of honor, courage, confidence, discipline, integrity, responsibility, dedication, and joy. It is also instrumental in reducing the immediate and cumulative effects of stress and anxiety. We have found that the more fit a person is, the more he/she is physically able to do the things that bring joy and fun to life – everything from feeling strong, confident and energetic through your normal work day, running around with your friends or kids, being physically active and playing sports, and traveling to remote corners of the earth. Being physically fit is inspiring, feels good, enriches your life, and adds both years to your life, and life to your years. People that are fit seem to have a clearer, more optimistic view of life. For us, the bottom line is this: Fitness allows you to live your best, and Ballston CrossFit will help you achieve your highest levels of fitness.

Last weekend we were invited to compete at the Red Bull Gym Clash in D.C.! Our BCF team placed 4th overall (SO CLOSE to a podium spot and the chance to compete in Nashville for the regional competition.)

We are thrilled to let EVERYBODY know that our very own Matt Freitas has punched his ticket to the 2026 Adaptive CrossFit Games!!

Matt ranked 6th in the WORLD for the Below the Knee Adaptive Division and will compete with the best in sunny San Jose, California from July 24th - 26th!

Did you know that the Adaptive CrossFit Games will be in the same location and timeline this year as the main Games? Get a BCF group together to cheer for Matt and take advantage of the opportunity to experience everything the CrossFit season has to offer!

Q: How did you find out about Ballston CrossFit (BCF) and what convinced you to join the gym?

I used to live around here and see people running outside. I thought they were straight up crazy. Then a close friend convinced me to try a class, and I fell in love instantly with the workouts, the energy, the motivation from everyone, and honestly how CrossFit completely changed my body.

Q: What stopped you from joining the gym sooner?

I think I was scared of failing… or maybe just lazy, let’s be real.

Q: When did you start at BCF, and what were your goals when you joined?

I joined exactly one year ago, on May 1st. At first, my goal was just to lose weight, but now it’s bigger; I want to be strong, healthy, and keep improving. When I started, I looked around and saw everyone, even older folks, crushing it. That made me realize weight isn’t everything. I want to be strong and healthy for the long run.

Q: What has helped you achieve success at BCF?

The people, for sure. Everyone is always cheering, fist-bumping, and pushing each other, it’s contagious. The coaches actually care and notice when you show up, and those fist bumps are EVERYTHING lol.

Q: What advice can you give to others who are new to CrossFit?

Consistency, consistency, consistency. I used to be the type to quit after the first week, but CrossFit taught me patience… and even to be on time, which says a lot because I’m always late to everything.

Q: Besides working out, what other lifestyle changes did you make outside of the gym?

Honestly everything. This year, I really started focusing on myself, sleeping better, eating better, and actually taking care of my body. My mood is better, I’m more focused, and my whole life has shifted in the best way possible. Not saying that just to say it, for real.

Q: What is the biggest benefit you’ve noticed since starting CrossFit (in or out of the gym)?

Confidence. I feel stronger, not just physically but mentally too. I push myself more in life because I learned how to push myself in the gym.

We will have a modified Monday class schedule in recognition of Memorial Day! Three heats will go out in the morning at 8:00am, 9:30am, and 11:00am. This is a special HERO WOD that the greater CrossFit community does each year during Memorial Day weekend to honor Navy Seal Michael Patrick Murphy. His workout is FOR TIME…

1 Mile Run
100 Pull Ups
200 Push Ups
300 Air Squats
1 Mile Run

This workout can be done un-partitioned with a weighted vest (20lb/14lb) for RX or can be scaled down for anyone in many different ways! Talk to your coach if you have questions about how you should tackle Murph safely this year.

We encourage everyone to come hang out with the BCF community post-WOD! See you there!
