THE GOAL IS NOT TO FOLLOW THE PLAN PERFECTLY. IT’S TO NEVER HAVE TO GUESS WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

The music will be loud. You’ll be tired. Your heart rate will be high.

That is the worst possible time to start negotiating with your partner.

Before you race, decide:

• Who starts each station
• Where you plan to switch
• What word signals an immediate switch
• How you’ll warn your partner that a change is coming
• What you’ll do if one person starts fading

Your plan can be based on time, distance or reps. The exact split may change, but the communication cannot disappear.

Use simple calls:

“Two more.”

“Switch.”

“I’ve got the next one.”

And if you start grinding through meters or surviving reps, switch before you redline. Your partner is not there to watch you prove how tired you can get.

They are your biggest advantage. Use them.

A race plan does not guarantee that everything goes right. It guarantees that when something goes wrong, both athletes know what happens next.

Plan the work. Plan the handoffs. Plan for the plan to change.

Do not wing this race.

Good luck, DC. Let’s go. 👊🏾🔥

Update: it did not.

Still there. Unfortunately.

I had faith.

My WUSA News DC interview is now live on YouTube.

I sat down with Lorenzo to talk HYROX, race week in DC, and what athletes should be thinking about before they step onto the floor.

Watch the full interview here:

Appreciate Lorenzo and WUSA9 for having me on and and for spotlighting the HYROX community here in DC.

Some people hate cardio. My body apparently said, “Yeah, we’re allergic to that.” 😂

What’s your cardio nemesis: treadmill, StairMaster, bike, or rower?

Drop yours below.

THIS IS THE ADVANTAGE OF DOUBLES.

You have a built-in recovery system standing right next to you.

Use it.

On the SkiErg, the goal is not to prove how long each athlete can hold on.

The goal is to complete the 1,000m while managing output, fatigue, and the run that comes next.

For the right doubles team:

30 seconds of work.
Quick switch.
Recover while your partner works.
Repeat.

Instead of staying on until power starts fading, you rotate while output is still strong and use your partner’s interval to recover.

That’s the advantage.

Not splitting the meters evenly.

Using two athletes to complete the work while managing fatigue more effectively.

HYROX is not eight separate stations. Every decision affects what comes next.

Use your partner. Protect your output. Race the entire event.

If your bench dips are turning into a shoulder exercise, fix your setup.

Bench dips can be effective for the triceps, but position matters.

Keep your hands close to your sides, your elbows tracking back instead of flaring wide, and your hips close to the bench.

Then control the descent.

You do not need to force the deepest range possible. Lower only as far as you can maintain a strong shoulder position without discomfort, then drive through the hands and finish by extending the elbows.

More range is not automatically better.
Better tension and cleaner ex*****on are.

Train the triceps. Protect the shoulders. Progress from there.

THE GOAL IS NOT TO STOP RUNNING. IT’S TO STOP ACCUMULATING FATIGUE.

The biggest question from Part 1 was, “Should we still run, or do nothing at all?”

Yes, you should still run.

Tapering does not mean abandoning your program. It means maintaining your normal rhythm while reducing the total workload.

Keep your usual running days, familiar paces, and threshold work. Just do less.

If you normally run 4 × 8 to 10 minutes at threshold, complete 2 × 8 to 10 minutes instead.

Keep your easy runs on their usual days, but make them shorter.

An optional 15- to 20-minute shakeout the day before your race is fine if it is already part of your routine.

Do not add new workouts, routes, shoes, or recovery methods during race week.

The goal is not to build more fitness now. The goal is to remind your body how to move at race pace without carrying unnecessary fatigue into the race.

If your final threshold run has already passed, do not force one into the schedule. The training is done.

Keep the rhythm. Shed the fatigue. Let your fitness show up on race day.

Good luck, DC. Let’s go. 🔥

Most people think gym time takes away from family time. In reality, it sharpens it.

When you commit to even 25–30 intentional minutes of training, you’re forced to manage your time better. You stop wasting hours. You prioritize what matters. You show up more focused, more patient, and with more energy.

Training isn’t about escaping responsibility. It’s about becoming stronger so you can handle it.

Strong body. Clear mind. Present father. That’s what making time really does.
