HOSS FAST 8 SEPTEMBER RACE NIGHT UPDATE
Last night we concluded our 6 Round V8 Supercars Championship, plus we crowned another Fast 8 Champion!
Taking out the monthly honours once again was Blair Gabites, he's been in real hot form as of late and will continue to prove that he is the man to beat.
Morgan Dore was just 2 points behind in the end, coming just short of what would be his 2nd Fast 8 Win. He steadies his overall championship lead and still has 4 points over Blair.
Andrew Bruce had another solid month with 3rd place, stuggling in the Capri at Lime Rock pace-wise but held it together to secure a podium in the reverse grid. Bad luck caught him out a touch in the first V8 race but rallied for a race win in the final.
This round also concluded our 6 Round V8 Supercars championship! We started out all the way back in February at Sydney Motorsport Park for some night racing, we had 2 excellent rounds here in New Zealand at Taupo and Ruapuna as well as the iconic Sandown and Adelaide. In the end it all came down to the finale at Bathurst!
Coming into the Finale we had a 3 Way Tie for 2nd place, between Andrew Bruce, Blair Gabites and Sam Wreford, so it was all up for grabs!
When it was all said and done there could only be one winner, and that was Morgan Dore! Ultra consistent all year, very few mistakes and always top 3 in pace come race night. He is our 2026 V8 Supercars Champion!
Andrew Bruce came up about 100 points short in the end for a solid 2nd place. Arguably the fastest all year, a missed round back at Taupo put him at a 200 point disadvantage. He clawed back half of the deficit and just scraped 2nd place. One to watch for next year.
Blair Gabites was only 3 Points behind Andrew after all, agonizingly close in the end. Blair struggled a touch with consistency in the races at the beginning of the year, having plenty of pace but making too many mistakes when the points were handed out. Around the halfway mark he started to figure it out and began reeling off Fast 8 Wins, and is now the winningest driver this season!
We've still got 2 more Monthly Leaderboards and 2 more Fast 8 Race nights to contest this year, with a massive $1000 up for grabs for the eventual winner! Just 4 Points separate 1st and 2nd, which is a $550 swing in prize money!
Who will it be? Morgan Dore or Blair Gabites?
