Wonderful Wednesday 💟

We take two boys to Te Aroha today to contest the same race, searching for success over ground.

💥 BOOM TOWN
He was a touch disappointing to the eye last start, but in fairness, he was a month between runs and over-raced a touch, which tolled late. He should progress from that run into this race today, and we feel the staying trip will suit him. He will need to improve from last start, but we are hopeful he will give a better showing today.

👑 KING OF THE JUNGLE
His last start was okay out of the same race as his stablemate. Coming into this race today, the extra distance on a big, roomy track will benefit him, as will the booking of Sam Collett. He will also need to show improvement off that run to step up into the placings today.

Saturday at The Big E 💪

We have just one runner entered today, but she is chasing stakes race success on a great day racing at Ellerslie.

🛎 BELLE REBELLE
There is no doubting this is her toughest assignment yet, and she comes here off the back of a disappointing run last start. However, her best is good enough to compete with these fillies, and we feel back at Ellerslie over 1400m gives her the chance to show her best. She has drawn nicely in gate 1 and should settle near the speed in the run.

Dancing in the street 🎼

It was hard-earned, but in the end it was a lovely, tough maiden win for CHOREOMANIA yesterday at Tauranga! She has always shown she has ability, it was just a matter of stepping her out to a staying trip before she could prove it. Given a gem of a ride by Craig Grylls, she was able to show her determination for a very dogged win.

A big congratulations and thanks to the Pencarrow Stud team, as well as Sir Peter Vela, for the ongoing support of our stable.

As always, we can't forget to mention our great team of staff at the stable who put in all the hard work to make results like this possible.

Over the Kaimais 🌄

We take a midweek trip down to the Bay of Plenty today, where we have three runners entered on a good midweek card at Racing Tauranga.

😲 SURPRIZE PACKAGE
A 5yo mare making her long-awaited debut here. She has had more than her fair share of niggles and setbacks to date, hence the delayed debut, but her two trials have been pleasing. We feel she will derive great benefit from this outing and potentially more ground in future. She has a good draw and top rider, which should help her have a positive debut.

🎼 CHOREOMANIA
She was just a touch too far back in the run last start but ground to the line nicely when 5th. It was a month between runs for her last start, and she will have taken improvement from it. We have the benefit of a leading rider to help with the tricky draw. The plan will be to settle near the speed, and with a good run, we feel she isn't too far away from scoring a win.

🎸 ROCKING
She is such a tough, honest mare, but unfortunately we are running out of opportunities to have her on a softer track, which she much prefers. She has the quality to be right in a race like this, but she would have liked a shower or two of rain coming for today. She will give her all though.

Taupō Trio ☘

The team is heading to the town of the great big lake today with three runners early in the day, all hunting maiden success.

💥 BOOM TOWN
He was super on debut back in September at Ruakākā over 1600m when fighting gamely for 4th. He will enjoy the step up to 1800m today and has the benefit of a low draw and the 3kg claim. He is likely to roll forward in this and should be able to run a good race.

👑 KING OF THE JUNGLE
The 1400m fresh-up was far short of his best, and rising to 1800m here will be suitable. From his low draw, he should be able to settle in the first half of the field, and we are hoping he can put his best foot forward today, with an eye to getting him over more ground in time.

🌬 LOFTY WIND
She did a fair bit of work early in her last start, and that effort tolled late. The form looks solid from that event, and we think 1100m around a track like this should suit her. Barrier 6 is tricky as she races on speed, but the 3kg claim will help her. We think she has plenty of ability, and her best is good enough to feature in this.

Making our way to Matamata 🕺

We head deep into racing country today with two runners engaged early in the card at Matamata!

🎶 CHOREOMANIA
She comes here second-up with the blinkers on for the first time. There appears to be a lack of speed in the race, so we expect her to settle handy in the run and, with natural improvement from her fresh-up run, she can be in the finish.

🐴 PARFAIT DIMANCHE
There is no hiding that this is a strong maiden field, but she is in fantastic order and should improve with the added fitness from her last start. With plenty of early speed in this race, from her low draw she should be able to find a nice trailing position and be in striking distance at the top of the straight. She is a real top-3 chance in a good race.

A few of the team stepped out at the trials last week to stretch their legs and edge a little closer to starting their spring campaigns 🌷

It is always an exciting time of the year as the young horses gain more experience and the older ones build back to race fitness.

Te Rapa Fridays 🍹

We head south down the motorway today with three runners entered to end the work week at Te Rapa Racing.

🐲 DRAGONSTONE
His recent racing has been nothing but continuous improvement, minus the blip in his most recent run. He was caught out on a limb and had to do too much work around the field at Te Aroha last start. His best runs have come on slightly softer footing than he will find today, but Te Rapa was the scene of his best run to date. Erin Leighton gets back aboard and with some luck in running, he can finish in the top 4 again.

🎌 YOKOZUNA
We took all the gear off last start and went back to basics, which we thought sparked some improvement until he ran into trouble late in the race last week at Ellerslie. From that point on, it was race over for him, so he comes here on the 7-day turnaround. He may need a touch of luck from the tricky draw, but we think he can run a bold race based on what we saw from him last Saturday.

🛎 BELLE REBELLE
While her run on paper last start looks only average, she managed the second-best closing sectionals of the race and probably just knocked up inside the final 200m. She has taken great improvement from that run, and we think she will acquit herself well here in a strong 3YO contest. The draw and race shape are a little tricky for her, so we will have to see where she lands after the jump, but with luck she can be in the finish.

Most Promising 👏🏼

A big congratulations to our very own Tom Wigram, who was recently awarded the Toby Autridge Trophy for the Most Promising First Year Apprentice at the Northern Apprentice Awards, which were held in Cambridge earlier this week.

It is no secret how proud of Tom our whole team is, but it was fantastic to see him recognised as the talent we know he is so early in his career. We are very excited for him and what lies ahead!
