instagram: Established in 2001, the Naval Point Club is the result of uniting the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club and the Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat Club. The Club has over 750 members and is based at Magazine Bay, Lyttelton. The Club has excellent facilities, is an all-tide sailing venue and offers many services to its members. A

comprehensive member's handbook is published yearly listing the full race calendar, social and cruising events, membership, fleet registers, contact details and Club rules. The Club's active fleets include vessels from the small Optimist dinghy to large keel boats, with substantial numbers of trailer yachts, catamarans and dinghies. As well as sailing vessels club membership includes powerboats, jet skis and launches, waka ama and kayaks. The summer sailing season is from late September thru to mid April predominately on Saturdays, with a very popular twilight series held on Wednesday evenings during daylight saving. A winter series of races is also held thru May and June on Sundays and is contested by many keen sailors. Major events on the Club calendar are the annual Presidents Cup Keel Boat regatta, held in conjunction with Akaroa Cruising Club, Canterbury Regatta weekend for all classes and Trailer Yacht Class events. Harbour events are supported by the Club's fleet of rescue boats and ocean races are held in Pegasus Bay. Jet Skis head out on Tuesday nights for social jet ski rides each week during the summer. Regular coaching and training is available for youngsters in Optimists, Windsurfers and other junior classes with more advanced coaching for youth members.. The Club is host to many national and local regattas throughout the season and has an excellent race management team, well equipped with race technology and specialist knowledge. The Club has storage and repair facilities available to members, with a large grassed rigging area, haul-out facilities for vessels up to 45', a secure boat maintenance area, wash down facilities, cradles, launching trolleys and dinghy storage under cover. The Club holds regular social activities for its members including raft ups, picnics, cruises and noggin'n'natter evenings with guest speakers. Racing rules and safety evenings are also popular with members. There is an extensive library housed in the Clubrooms with fiction and non fiction titles available all about things to do with the sea. There are many quality books dealing with our own cruising grounds, technical matters, seamanship, racing, as well as many local and international sea classics. The Club archive contains historic photographs and records dating back to the turn of the century. The Club has an office with the Club Manager in attendance Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5pm and on sailing days and a comfortable wardroom for that after race get together. Hot food is available during bar opening hours, with the Clubhouse opening each morning at around 10.00 am on sailing days. πŸŒπŸ’™ Huge thanks to Hamish and everyone involved in the Mother of All Clean Ups this weekend!

Teams spread out across Naval Point, Cass Bay, and Governors Bay with around 30 incredible volunteers all pitching in to help keep our harbour beautiful. Together we collected close to 200kg of rubbish from around the coastline and foreshore πŸ‘β™»οΈ

Events like this show what can happen when people come together for a common cause. Proud to support and be involved πŸ’™πŸŒŠ

Today I was called out through the GoodSAM Responder app. This isn’t the first time I’ve posted about this app, but it was the first time I have assisted in reviving a patient.

I was only the second person to arrive, and CPR was already underway. I helped assess the patient, removed clothing so an AED could be applied, and once ambulance staff arrived, I placed the AED on the patient and assisted with bagging.

Once enough professionals were on scene, I shifted to supporting the patient’s wife and helping contact family members.

What really struck me was that the first three people on scene were all GoodSAM responders. Ordinary people with first aid training stepping up to help in someone’s worst moment.

Over half of all heart attack deaths happen at home due to delayed treatment. Early CPR and early AED use save lives.

If you have a current first aid certificate, all you need to do is create a profile and upload your certificate. You could be the reason someone gets another chance ❀️

If your first aid has lapsed, I'll be organizing a course at the club soon!

Rules of Sailing Quiz Night πŸŒ™ was fantastic!

A great group of competitive sailors made the smart move of sitting far enough apart that they could discuss rules, tactics, and strategies without giving anything away to the teams nearby πŸ˜…β›΅οΈ

Great prizes from Oborn's Nautical and Two Thumb Brewing Co were quickly snapped up once the winners were announced πŸ»πŸ†

A huge thanks to Iain for putting together such a great range of questions that not only challenged everyone in the room, but also taught valuable skills and how to use the rules to your advantage heading into the coming season! πŸ‘βš“οΈ

πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Pirate Day at Naval Point was pure magic! ✨🌊

A huge thanks to Pirate Phil, Pirate Alex aboard Aurora Waterline Marine Services, Skipper Steve, Jet Junkies NZ for your continued support, Black Cat Cruises, the Governors Bay Jetty Restoration Trust, and Te Waka Pounamu Outrigger Canoe Club for helping create such an unforgettable day for the Cholmondeley kids. βš“οΈβ˜ οΈ

We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day on the water! β˜€οΈπŸŒŠ

The adventure started by picking up our newest crew from the Governors Bay Jetty Trust before meeting up with Te Waka Pounamu to answer riddles and earn a bounty of chocolate for the voyage ahead πŸ«βš“οΈ

From there we headed out to RΔ«papa Island for a quick pirate photo stop beside Pirate Cove πŸ“ΈπŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ before making our way to the heads in search of Pirate Cave… not Pirate Cage, which disappointed quite a few kids πŸ˜‚

On the journey back toward Quail Island we were treated to the most incredible surprise, a pod of Hector dolphins putting on an absolute show around the boats 🐬✨ The dolphins came right up alongside us and created a memory none of us will forget.

We finished the day dropping the crew at Quail Island for lunch. Captain Sabrina (aka Boss Lady) was quite busy and needed to head back to work. This would have left the crew stranded. Luckily we have friends at Black Cat Cruises! If they went to the team with the right answers to riddles... they might just score a ride back to Lyttelton without the long swim! πŸš€β˜ οΈπŸ’™

🚒 What a night at the club!

We had a packed house for Roger Lusby’s talk, and what an incredible evening it turned out to be πŸ™Œ

Roger shared stories from his year in Antarctica ❄️ β€” raw, fascinating, and full of perspective. The room was hooked as he brought those experiences to life, connecting them back to our own maritime heritage βš“

It was also a powerful reminder of why we’re rallying behind the 119 year old tug Tug Lyttelton, with all funds raised going toward the much needed boiler replacement ❀️

Ngā mihi to everyone who came along and packed the place out. This is what community looks like πŸ‘
