We are deeply saddened to hear the passing of one our beloved members of our Canterbury Team Sailing whānau: Wilson Murray (Aged 21 years). On Tuesday 27th September 2022, Wilson was involved in a tragic accident which consequently took his life.

Wilson started sailing at a young age out of Charteris Bay in the optimist dinghy and competing in many optimist national events. During high school, we were very fortunate to have him captain the Christ’s College Sailing Team during his final year in which his team performed incredibly well at both the Nelson Top of the South regionals and Algies Bay nationals. Wilson was a role model to all his sailing peers and his smile will be missed by everyone.

Our thoughts are with Wilson’s family, especially his parents Leicester and Laura during this very tense time. We thank them for their contribution to our sailing community and the Charteris Bay Yacht Club. We will never forget Wilson and his energy that he brought to Canterbury sailing.

Here's a quick reminder who our regional team sailing champions were in the 2020-2021 season! Massive credit to all 5 of these schools who worked hard all season to get this success, in particular the Rangitoto College who I'm sure you all know went on to dominate the national championships in April for the second time running.

Unfortunately the Covid-19 interuptions meant that the lower North Islands in Wellington were unable to go ahead this season.

Solid Round Robin 1 for Christ’s College at Algies Bay, stay tuned!
