Resistance Climbing is backing the Northern Royal Albatross for Bird of the Year 2026!

Here in Ōtepoti we're lucky to have the Northern Royal Albatross colony at Taiaroa Head, which is the only mainland albatross colony in the world.

They're huge and have a three metre wingspan! What a dream for us climbers.

They are classified as Endangered, and are threatened by climate change, plastic pollution, and bycatch from fisheries.

Help raise awareness of these incredible birds by joining us in voting for Northern Royal Albatross this year!

Outdoors, indoors, mountains, boulders, and everything in between, NZAC and ACAT want to hear from you!

NZAC and ACAT are reviewing how climbing is supported in Aotearoa New Zealand.

They want to understand what climbers value, what issues matter most, what support and services are missing, and how climbing organisations can better meet the needs of today's climbing community.

The results will help inform future priorities, investment, advocacy, access work, education programmes, and community initiatives.

Find a climb on the gym map and record yourself completing it, then select "Submit Your Beta" to post your video. You have two weeks to be in to win.

Route setting starts this week! 📣

Our new setting schedule will be twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays.

We're going to change a wall section at a time, going from the furthest left section across to the right, two sections per week.

Curious which section is next to go? Check out our setting board to the right of our retail space to see what's happening.
