Sailing doesn't just teach you how to steer a boat—it builds true character.

At MBSC, we pride ourselves on helping young sailors (ages 7-16) develop the ultimate superpower: Resilience.

Out on the water, they learn to adapt to changing conditions, push through challenges, and never give up. These are lessons that stay with them for life.

What a regatta and what awesome competition amongst a very talented fleet. Well done everyone who took part and who faced a very broad range of conditions. Thanks to Royal Akarana Yacht Club for hosting the event. Well done to MBSC sailors Blake Batten and Greta Hutton who both made the podium in a hard fought competition.

From humble beginnings to a world-class training ground! ⛵️

We’ve come a long way since the early days of our clubhouse. While our modern facilities give our young sailors the best platform to succeed, our core mission remains exactly the same: nurturing the next generation of Kiwi sailing talent.

Once an MBSC sailor, always an MBSC sailor! 💙

🔧 Splicing Night with Geoff Dawson 🔧

Join us on Wednesday 3rd June at 6:30pm for a hands-on evening of splicing with RNZYS Boat Maintenance Manager Geoff Dawson.

We’ll provide the rope - you bring your fid and sailors palm if you have them. If not, no problem at all, just come along and share tools and get stuck in.

A relaxed, practical session to build skills, swap tips, and spend time with fellow sailors in the shed.

See you there! (Please RSVP)

Eight years ago I wrote about one of the proudest moments of our lives — watching Seb and his sailing partner Blake, aged just 13 and 15, win the 420 World Sailing Championships in Newport, Rhode Island.

At the time, it felt like an incredible achievement from such humble beginnings through the Learn to Sail programme at Murrays Bay Sailing Club.

Fast forward to today, and it is hard to put into words how proud we are again — Seb and his sailing partner George Lee Rush has now gone on to win the 49er World Championships in Quiberon, France. Not only that, they are now the YOUNGEST 49er world champions in history! 🌍🥇🇳🇿

What makes it even more special is seeing the journey behind it. Learn-to-sail boats at Murrays Bay Sailing Club, to years of commitment, resilience, personal challenges, setbacks, travel and relentless hard work — all leading to representing New Zealand and standing on top of the world again.

It also reinforces something I have always believed: when young people are given opportunity, support and encouragement, extraordinary things can happen.

As both a parent and long-time supporter of junior sailing through , moments like this are incredibly special to witness.

Huge congratulations Seb and the entire team behind him. We could not be prouder.

👑 The Kings of Quiberon! 🇳🇿⛵️

Seb Menzies and George Lee Rush are officially 49er WORLD CHAMPIONS! 🌍🥇

The young Kiwi duo delivered a masterclass in France — winning the first medal race before producing an incredible comeback in the second. After being hit with an OCS at the start, they fought their way back through the fleet to finish fifth and dramatically secure the world title 🔥💨

An outstanding performance from two rising stars of New Zealand sailing 🇳🇿👏

Congratulations Seb and George — world champions! 🏆

AIMS Games is an amazing event. It would be very sad to see sailing not be a part of this event which represents so many sports across NZ.

Please sign up your sailors and support it. Then go buy a very warm wet suit! It’s an epic event in the sailing calendar.

Currently only 27 boats are registered for the AIMS Games Yachting event in September, and there is concern that yachting could be removed from the Games when sports are reviewed for the next three-year cycle. We’d love to see more intermediate sailors involved and help secure the future of yachti...
