Club Day 23 June Rachel Long Memorial
On the scheduled club day on 23 June at the end of play (3.30 p.m. approx) we will be celebrating Rachel's 80th birthday with the unveiling of a bench in her memory, and an afternoon tea arranged by her husband Trevor.

The dedication and afternoon tea will happen no matter what the weather. In the spirit of the occasion, if you could wear something red, that would be great.

Thursday 28 May Triples
Once again an oversubscribed field, so one entry not accepted and two teams balloted out.

Eighteen teams played four games of two bowl triples, enjoying what may be the last of the nice calm, relatively warm autumn weather we have experienced this month, the dew on the green providing some welcome guidance in the first game.
A different allocation of prizes, allocated according to the sheet in the tournament organiser’s manual, for the allocation of prizes for winter events (version 8!)

There were three four winners but only first and second prizes. The unlucky four winner was the team of Russell Parkinson, Annie McGrath and Sheryl Wellington who had 27 ends.
First place - Steve Hoeft, Evan Thomas and Wyn Graye, with 32 ends.
Second place - David Lloydd, John Lindsay and Bill Lowe, with 30 ends.

Then there were prizes for the best winner in each of the four games:
First game was Russell Parkinson, Annie McGrath and Sheryl Wellington with 8 ends and 19 points.
Second game was Lindsay Gilmore, Colin Rogan and Bruce McClintock with 8 ends and 17 points.
Third game was Arthur Beale, Murray Radojkovich and Brian Rogers with 9 ends and 17 points.
Fourth game was Tony James, George Jones and Steve McGregor with 8 ends.
Lucky dip went to Alan Daniels, Kevin Robertson and Joy Watkinson.

Thanks to those who helped in the many ways that are required to make the day successful and enjoyable for everyone. Special thanks to Phil for preparing the green.
Good luck to Elaine and Leon in the BNH Champ of Champs 2-4-2 this weekend.

Club Day May 26 Traditional Tuesday

Yet another fabulous Autumn afternoon for our Club Day bowls. Today was our first "Traditional Tuesday Club Day" and the support from the 34 bowlers present was exceptional. The home baking was to die for and wearing whites by so many was really appreciated by the organisers. About half the bowlers gained extra points for home baking and / or the wearing of whites. John Smith outdid us all with his sartorial elegance. He will be a hard act to follow on future such occasions.

Results are as follows:
1. John Smith 33 points
2. Ralph Cullen 32 points
3. Carol Tattersall 31 points
4. Hanaan Shahwan 29 points
5. Rosemary Nicol 29 points
6. Gerry Strydom 28 points
7. Steve Bartley 27 points
Lucky dips went to: Marie Cooper, Louise Ball and Daphne Davies

Next Club Day ( on June 2 ) will be the Tuesday Surprise option.

Another great result for our Mairangi Bay women

The men and women Champ of Champ fours were held over the weekend.
The men were at Helensville and the women at Waimauku with the finals at
Orewa on Sunday.

Our teams were:

Leon Wech, Stuart Jamieson, Bill Lowe and Tony Popplewell.

Sheryl Wellington, Jan Gledhill, Colleen Rice and Theresa Rogers.

The men were up against Sunnybrae in their first round, unfortunately they
came up short going down 12-16.

The men's final was won by a strong Browns Bay team of Neil Fisher, Colin
Rogan, Matt Berry and John Walker defeating Warkworth 17-8.

The women played Mahurangi East in their first round and had a good win
23-13.

In the quarter-final, they had a strong win 21-6 against Milford.

They were up against a strong Millie Nathan skipped Birkenhead team in the
semi-final and they had a very convincing win 19-8.

In the final they were up against a very experienced Manly team.

This was a much closer game with our team just taking the win 16-14.

On the last end they were 3 up on the score board, but were 3 down on head,
Sheryl had the last bowl of the end, Jan had a close bowl that just needed
to be knocked forward to cut the number down, Sheryl played the shot
perfectly and achieved that, so then they were only one down and therefore
won the game by 2 shots.

This win now gives Colleen her Gold star. Well done Colleen.

Congratulations to Sheryl, Jan, Colleen and Theresa who now go on the
National Champ of Champs, being held in Hastings from 31st July to the 2nd
August.

Open Triples 21 May
Eighteen teams of triples contested the tournament on Thursday 21 May, the first of our Winter tournaments. The weather was cold at the start but warmed up as the day progressed without ever being hot.

There was only one four winner: Evan Thomas, Bevan Smith and Ian Hardy with 4 wins, and 27 ends.

Second were Phil Chisholm, Colleen Rice and Theresa Rogers with 3 wins and 27 ends.

Third: Lindsay Gilmore, Colin Rogan and Bruce McClintock with 3 wins and 26 ends. Winning third prize enabled Lindsay to pay his wrong bias from a month ago. In 10th place were Jan Calcott, Murray Matheson and Connie Matheson with 2 wins, 23 ends and 40 points.

The Daily Prize for coming 16th went to Russell Parkinson, Sheryl Wellington and Annie McGrath.

The Lucky Dip went to Arthur Beale, Brian Rogers and Kevin Cameron

Thanks to Leon Wech for the green setup and raffles, David Lloydd for the early cup of tea, Tony Trent, Lorna Donald and Bruce Aley for the kitchen cleanup and Alan Daniels, Graeme Storey and David Lloydd for the bar.
