To every mama who’s healing from a c-section while caring for a newborn, this one’s for you 🤍

C-section scar massage comes up with almost every caesarean mum we see. As your scar heals, the layers underneath can get tight and stuck together. Gentle massage helps everything move more freely again and can settle down sensitivity too.

A few things to know before you start:

〰 Wait until around 6 weeks, once your scar is fully closed (check with your GP or LMC first if you’ve had an infection).

〰 5 to 10 minutes with some oil before bed is all you need.

📌Save this for your 6 week mark, and send it to a friend who’s in the newborn trenches right now.

If it’s still feeling tight, numb or just not quite right, book in with one of our physios.

Meet Kat, one of our yoga teachers at Northcote!

Kat has been practising yoga for over 15 years. Like a lot of us, she started for the physical side of it, then found it turned into something much bigger: a place to slow down and come back to herself.

That’s exactly what she brings to her classes. You won’t be chasing the perfect pose or the hardest sequence. Kat’s classes are about your breath, noticing how you feel, and an hour where nobody needs anything from you.

We love having her on the team, and anyone who’s been to one of her classes knows exactly why 😍 Whether you’ve done yoga for years or you’re not sure you can touch your toes, you’ll be welcomed onto the mat exactly as you are.

Catch Kat at Northcote - Book your next yoga class through the link in our bio 🧘‍♀️

We have a confession: we’re a little bit obsessed with Ellen & her cookies 🍪🤤

She walked into Pt Chev the week we opened, curious about Pilates and with “no clue what I was doing” (her words). Three years later, she’s in Shanelle’s classes almost every week and squeezes in an Express class at lunch before a big bake day!

Oh, and she also happens to own Pt Chev Cookies. Yes, those ones from Farro - the chewy, delicious mouthwatering ones!

We reached out to Ellen to feature her story in this month’s newsletter - so grab Grab a cookie, then head to your email to give it a read 🍪

Thank you for being part of the Unity family from day one, Ellen!

Teen Pilates is back for Term 4.

Two classes, same time, two different days. Pick the one that fits your week.

✨ Tuesdays 4.15pm · with Pamela · starts 13 October

✨ Thursdays 4.15pm · with Cat · starts 15 October

We’ve kept this term to 9 weeks, so the course wraps up before the end-of-year rush of dance concerts, prizegivings and Christmas everything. Parents, we see you.

Whether you’re teen is training in ballet, netball, or another sport - these classes build what sits underneath all of it: whole-body strength, control, and an understanding of how their body moves so they can look after it.

And if they don’t play a sport and just want to feel strong, they belong here too!

✨The details:
~ Ages 13+
~ Minimum height for Reformer: 152 cm / 5 ft
~ 9 week course at a special price just for teens
~ No experience needed, our instructors will adjust anything that doesn’t feel right.

This one made us stop and reread it.

When you’ve got a pelvic floor injury and an arm injury, the list of things you “can’t do” gets long fast. It’s easy to feel defeated.

What we love about this review is what she noticed. Not a quick fix. Teachers who knew what they were looking at, who set her up in a safe position, and who explained how to hold her body so each move actually did its job! (Shout out to Isabella✨)

Our favourite line: “I never feel like I’m trying to keep up.” You don’t have to. Reformer works with where your body is today, not where the person on the next machine is.

Every body’s recovery looks different, and progress rarely moves in a straight line. But strength after injury is possible, and you don’t have to just manage.

Thank you for trusting us with your body, and for letting us share your words. 🤍

Pain lasting more than 3 months? It’s not “just in your head” - but it does need a different approach. 🧠⚡

Acute pain (like a rolled ankle) and persistent pain are NOT the same thing, and should be treated differently.

~ Acute pain = tissue damage → rest, protect, rehab → heals

~ Persistent pain = nervous system sensitisation → your spinal cord and nerves get “turned up in volume,” like a fire alarm going off with no fire

Your pain is real either way.

Whatever pain you’re dealing with reach out to us and book in an assessment with one of Unity’s Physios.

Persistent pain isn’t something you’re supposed to just manage because you’re busy, because it’s “not that bad,” or because you’ve had it so long it feels normal now.

Whether it’s your back, your shoulder, or your pelvic floor, pain is information. Our job is to work out what it’s telling us, then build a plan around it.

If something’s been nagging at you for weeks, months, or years, that’s worth a proper look. Don’t just Google what will help my back pain, book in an actual assessment.

Book in with one of our physios. Let us help figure out what’s actually going on.
