After the World University Championships Rowing, it is now time for the European Championships! 🇪🇺

Following yesterday’s General Technical Meeting, the first boats of the Dutch delegation will take to the water today in Zagreb.

Results | European Universities Games 2026 🇮🇹

With yesterday’s closing ceremony, an unforgettable edition of the European Universities Games has come to an end.

Several Dutch teams finished in the top 8 🇳🇱 👏
• 5th – Women’s Singles Badminton: Nasim Safaei TU Eindhoven
• 6th – Men’s Futsal TU Eindhoven
• 8th – Women’s Beach Volleyball TU Delft
• 8th – Men’s Football University of Groningen

A special congratulations to the Women’s Basketball team Maastricht University , who received the Fair Play Award for their outstanding sportsmanship. 🏆

Next year, the European University Championships will take place across Europe, before the European Universities Games return in 2028 in Split, Croatia 🇭🇷.

Recap – 31 July 🏐⚽️🏸

🏐The beach volleyball team from Delft University of Technology started the day against the University of Latvia. After taking the first set, they were unable to hold on as Latvia claimed the second and third sets. Later, the team faced the University of Graz in the match for 7th place. Despite another hard-fought three-set battle, Graz took the deciding set by just two points. Delft finishes the tournament with a top 10 result to be proud of.

⚽️Later that day, both football teams were in action. The men’s team from Groningen found the net but could not secure the victory, losing 4–1 to a Portuguese opponent. They will now play for 7th/8th place.

The women’s team also managed to score, but the Norwegian University of Science and Technology proved too strong as they fell 3–1.

🏸Throughout the day, the badminton individual tournament continued. Several Dutch players reached the Round of 16, while Nasim Safaei advanced to the quarterfinals after two straight-set victories over opponents from Slovenia and France. Her run ended in the quarterfinals against a Lithuanian opponent, earning her an excellent top 8 finish.

Only one day of competition remains at this event!

Recap – 30 July ⚽️🏐🏸

Yesterday the men’s and women’s football teams, the beach volleyball team, and the badminton players were all in action.

🏐The women’s beach volleyball team from Delft played two matches yesterday. They faced a tough opponent from Lithuania in the morning, last year’s medalists. After a hard-fought match, they narrowly lost in the third set.

Later that day, they bounced back with a great win over Aix-Marseille University 👏

🏸The individual badminton tournament got underway yesterday, with the singles and doubles events starting. A total of eight matches were played, resulting in six wins for the Dutch players from Eindhoven🤩💪

The following players and pairs have advanced to the Round of 16:
• Mixed Doubles 1
• Mixed Doubles 2
• Women’s Singles
• Men’s Doubles
• Women’s Doubles

⚽️The women’s football team from Eindhoven fought hard in temperatures exceeding 32°C. Playing in the full sun made for challenging conditions, but the team kept battling until the final whistle. In the end, the University of Basel proved too strong (🇳🇱0-4🇨🇭)

⚽️The men’s football team from Groningen reached the quarter-finals after an impressive tournament so far. The University of Rouen scored the only goal of the match in the first half, and Groningen was unable to find an equaliser.

Although they missed out on a place in the semi-finals, Groningen will now compete for places 5–8 🔥

Badminton finishes in the top 10, beach volleyball claims a third win 🏸🏐

🏸The badminton team from Eindhoven has finished the team tournament. After two wins and one close loss in the group stage, they competed for places 6–10. Although they couldn’t secure another victory yesterday, finishing in the top 10 is a good result. Their EUG journey isn’t over yet, as the individual tournament starts today!

🏐The women’s beach volleyball team from Delft continues its impressive run. They claimed their third consecutive victory by defeating the University of Porto 21–13 and 21–16. Next up is a match against Vytautas Magnus University from Lithuania.

⚽️The men’s and women’s football teams enjoyed a rest day yesterday and are ready to return to action in their next matches.

Recap 28 July 🏐⚽️🏸

The group stages have come to an end, with great results for the Dutch universities.

🏐The women’s beach volleyball team from Delft started the day with a win over Prague University of Economics and Business. After three sets, they secured the victory. Later that day, despite the heat, they delivered another good performance, defeating the University of Edinburgh 21-10 and 21-11. With two wins, they earned a bye to the next stage of the tournament.

⚽️The men’s football team from Groningen secured a place in the quarter-finals! Although they couldn’t beat the University of Split, scoring a goal proved crucial as qualification depended on goal difference. They did enough to finish in the top positions of the group and will now fight for a place in the semi-finals.

🏸The badminton team from Eindhoven also secured second place in their group. After a narrow loss and a win on the opening day, they finished the group stage with a convincing 4-1 victory over the University of Maribor. They now advance to the knockout stage, where all second-placed teams compete for places 6-10.

Recap | 28 July ⚽️🏸🏐

The badminton team kicked off their tournament, the men’s football team secured a 3-1 victory, and the women’s football team completed the group stage.

🏸Yesterday, the badminton team competition got started. They faced two opponents: German Sport University Cologne and University College London. Against the German team, the match went down to the final set, but Cologne narrowly claimed the win (3-2). Later that day, the team came back with a convincing 4-1 victory over University College London.

⚽️The men’s football team (Groningen University) took on the Finnish University of Jyväskylä and secured a 3-1 win in their second group match. One group-stage match remains, against the University of Split. Both teams are currently level at the top of the group, so the winner will claim first place.

⚽️ The women’s football team (Eindhoven University of Technology) faced the home team from Salerno. They managed to score but were unable to secure the win. With the group stage now complete, they will have two rest days to recover and train before playing their final matches of the tournament.

🏐The general technical meeting for the beach volleyball competition also took place yesterday. With all preparations completed, the women’s team from Delft University of Technology is now ready to begin their tournament.
