Bravehearts Basketball Club has announced that this year's Bravehearts International Basketball Challenge will take place from Thursday, 03rd September to Saturday, 05th September at ABC Blue Gym Court in Lilongwe.

Club President, Daud Hussein, says the three-day showpiece will involve teams from Malawi, Zambia, South Africa and Mozambique and will also feature a category for veterans of 40 years above.

According to Hussein, Bravehearts Basketball Club will host the tournament with financial support from G.Y Imports and Dr. Printing and the stakes have been also been raised from $2,500 to $5,000 for the champions in both men's and women's categories.

Hussein says Bravehearts teams are ready to stamp authority on home soil having played a series of strength testing matches in Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia in recent months.

Meanwhile, captain for the men's team, Madalitso Kadiwa, whose team has been runners up on two occasions, are geared to win the title for the first time and end the dominance by Zambian teams.

BRAVEHEARTS CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES PRIZE MONEY TO $5K AS LILONGWE BRACES FOR TIP-OFF

The Bravehearts International Basketball Championship continues to set the standard in the region.

This is a tournament that has done everything to give regional teams and clubs the exposure they need. More than that, it has been consistent, running every year for the longest time, and building a reputation as one of Southern Africa’s premier club competitions.

This year the organizers have raised the bar again. Excelling clubs will be rewarded with even bigger incentives after first prize money was doubled.

The winners in both the ladies’ and men’s categories will now walk away with $5,000 ,up from $2,500 last year. That marks a 100% increase.

The new development was announced by Bravehearts president Daud Hussein in a statement ahead of the tournament.

With just a day to go before tip-off in Lilongwe, Hussein said all is set.

“All the teams listed have paid up and confirmed their availability, and with that Lilongwe is on fire,” Hussein said.

The three-day showpiece runs from Thursday, 3 September to Saturday, 5 September 2026 at Africa Bible College in the Malawi capital, and will feature clubs from Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mozambique and 10 teams from the host nation Malawi.

With doubled prize money, confirmed teams, and a track record of consistency, the Bravehearts International Basketball Championship is once again delivering what regional basketball needs: competition, exposure, and reward.

The courts are ready. Lilongwe is ready.
