Challenge Cycling Club

Challenge Cycling Club Challenge CC is a Galway based cycling club catering for all abilities, covering Oranmore, Clarinbridge, Athenry and Craughwell New members always welcome

Challenge CC was born out of the desire to have a holistic approach to club cycling, with an emphasis on “Team” and rider development. Our objective is to have a club that genuinely caters for all of our members no matter what their individual needs or focus. We are a collective of leisure cyclists and racers, from beginners to advanced. Whether it’s a summer of Sportives and Adventures, or from C

lub Racing to Time Trials, maybe it’s getting promoted through the ranks of open racing. Whatever it is we will work together to make it the best experience possible and have fun along the way. The club has an access all areas policy, so if you fancy giving any particular area a go and are up for the “Challenge” there are no limitations! All spins and training sessions will be graded by average speed or other levels of difficulty so you know what to expect and can gauge based on your ability. If you're unsure about anything our senior members and Spin leaders are always there to give advice and lend a helping hand, so don’t be shy and get involved.

Lá breá samhraidh a bhí ann was the opening line to many an Irish essay back when I was in school. Were summers really better back then or have I just a touch of nostalgia? In any event, there was very little samhradh or breá at the Croí Corrib cycle today, apart from the opportunity to meet up with cyclists from other clubs and knowing that you were supporting a great cause for Croí Heart & Stroke Charity. Well done to all the marshals who had to stand out in the downpours and to all who supported the event.

This programme is being run in conjunction with the Galway Sports Partnership and Community Bike Rides and our theme for week 2 was all about ensuring that your bike was ready for the road. It’s not too late to join in so send us a message if interested.

It was definitely ice-cream weather this week, as summer made a brief appearance in midweek. However, we saw a return to damp and slightly cooler conditions for our Sunday spins today. Fingers crossed we'll have some more ice-cream spins as the summer continues.

Wow, what a weekend that was. So great to finally see some sunshine and warm weather. Some club members made the annual pilgrimage to Clifden on Saturday for Tour de Conamara. The numbers also turned out for our sunny Sunday spin yesterday. Earlier in the week we had our regular Wednesday evening social spin, now leaving at the later time of 7pm from Kilcornan. And on Saturday we kicked off week 1 of our Get on your Bike programme, with a focus on bike skills. Want to join in? Send us a message.

Big numbers out today for a very beautiful first day of spring. We took to the hills again this week cycling up through Derrybrien and on to the windmills. Lots of smiles and sunshine.
