Protect Our Dunes 2026 - Why Sand Dunes Matter?

Sand dunes reduce coastal erosion, absorb storm energy, and provide habitats for rare plants and animals. Human activities like trampling, sliding down dunes, wild camping, and roaming dogs can cause lasting damage.

Small actions by visitors can make a big difference:
โœ… Stick to designated pathways
โœ… Avoid walking or running on dunes
โœ… Follow local signage
โœ… Observe wildlife from a respectful distance

Together, we can preserve our county's natural coastal treasures!

๐Ÿ Volleyball Nets Are Back in Bettystown! โ˜€๏ธ

The volleyball nets at Bettystown Beach were put back up last weekโ€”just in time for the gorgeous weather! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Theyโ€™re free for everyone to use, and itโ€™s been fantastic to see so many people enjoying them already over the past few days.

Weโ€™re looking forward to seeing even more games, laughter, and fun on the beach throughout the summer! ๐ŸŒŠ

โ˜€๏ธ Amuigh Faoin Spรฉir โ€“ DAY 4 | Tรก an ghrian ag taitneamh!

Sunshine and learning at its best this week for students of St. Patrickโ€™s NS, Slane and Gaelscoil an Bhradรกin Feasa ๐ŸŒฟ

As part of their ongoing An Choill Beag projects, both schools have now completed Day 4 of An Taisceโ€™s LEAF Programme.

Day 4 highlights included:
๐ŸŒฑ Plant identification
๐Ÿ Biodiversity surveys
๐ŸŒณ Installing individual tree signs
๐Ÿ“š Sharing resources
๐ŸŒ Learning how to care for their new habitat

Students proudly placed individual tree signs around the site, along with a larger project sign showcasing their fantastic work.

For a hands-on nature experience, some lucky students even got to handle an old wasp nestโ€ฆ very cool! ๐Ÿ

Next up:
โžก๏ธ Kilmainhamwood will complete Day 4 next week
โžก๏ธ Moynalty NS will wrap up their programme later this year

Obair iontach ar fad! Brilliant work by all involved ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒฟ

This project is funded by Meath Local Sports Partnership through the Participation Nation โ€“ Amuigh Faoin Spรฉir Fund.

Well done to all participants who took part in our recent 3K and 5K Challenge โ€” the final event of our 0โ€“3K and 3โ€“5K Social Run Programme, which ran from March to May!

For many, this was their very first time running or jogging, and completing a 3K or 5K is an amazing achievement. Huge congratulations to everyone involved โ€” you should be incredibly proud ๐Ÿ‘

Itโ€™s fantastic to see the ongoing support from the clubs hosting these programmes and their dedication to helping each participant reach their goals ๐Ÿ’™

Our 0โ€“3K and 3โ€“5K programmes will return this September in Tara, Trim, Navan, Kells, and Bettystown.

Traveller Pride Week is a valuable time to recognise and celebrate Traveller identity, culture, and resilience. It also reminds us of the importance of continuing to build inclusive communities where everyone feels represented, supported, and empowered through sport and physical activity.

We were delighted to support last weekโ€™s Involve Youth Service event, bringing games to the green and enjoying the fantastic energy and sense of community on the day.

At Meath Local Sports Partnership, inclusion is at the heart of what we do. This is strengthened through the work of our ESF+ Social Innovation in Sport Officer, Paula Cunningham, who collaborates closely with the Traveller community to create meaningful, accessible, and community-led opportunities.

So far this year we have:
โœ… Delivered a Men Learn to Swim programme
โœ… Supported a Bike Week cycle, bringing three generations together for a special โ€œDad and Ladโ€ experience
โœ… Continued our Active Lackeens programme, engaging over 20 Traveller girls in activities such as kayaking, swimming, hockey, and beach volleyball
โœ… Progressed our Sport4Empowerment programme, amplifying Traveller womenโ€™s voices through activity-based storytelling and celebrating traditional childhood games

These initiatives are about much more than sport โ€” they are about participation, belonging, culture, and confidence.

We look forward to continuing this journey and creating even more positive and inclusive experiences with the Traveller community across Meath.
