Traveller Pride Week is a valuable time to recognise and celebrate Traveller identity, culture, and resilience. It also reminds us of the importance of continuing to build inclusive communities where everyone feels represented, supported, and empowered through sport and physical activity.
We were delighted to support last weekโs Involve Youth Service event, bringing games to the green and enjoying the fantastic energy and sense of community on the day.
At Meath Local Sports Partnership, inclusion is at the heart of what we do. This is strengthened through the work of our ESF+ Social Innovation in Sport Officer, Paula Cunningham, who collaborates closely with the Traveller community to create meaningful, accessible, and community-led opportunities.
So far this year we have:
โ
Delivered a Men Learn to Swim programme
โ
Supported a Bike Week cycle, bringing three generations together for a special โDad and Ladโ experience
โ
Continued our Active Lackeens programme, engaging over 20 Traveller girls in activities such as kayaking, swimming, hockey, and beach volleyball
โ
Progressed our Sport4Empowerment programme, amplifying Traveller womenโs voices through activity-based storytelling and celebrating traditional childhood games
These initiatives are about much more than sport โ they are about participation, belonging, culture, and confidence.
We look forward to continuing this journey and creating even more positive and inclusive experiences with the Traveller community across Meath.
