Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Club 3-15
Friday night football came with a bang as St Joseph's claimed an impressive win over Kilbeggan Shamrocks in Kinnegad this evening. Where does one start to describe this game? After 15 minutes we trailed by 11 points as Kilbeggan led by 3-3 to 0-1 at that stage even though play was pretty even up to that point, nothing had really gone right for us. Then we started to react. Dean Slevin goaled in the 16th minute and over the next 10 minutes we dominated with scores at 2-7 to 3-4 by the 26th minute. A succession of points and a goal from Aaron Mc Donnell had the Joeys hopping along nicely. A flurry of scores up to half time saw us lead by 2-12 to 3-6 at the break. The fifteen minutes up to half time saw us outscoring Kilbeggan by 2-11 to 0-3. Second half commenced with three successive attacks for us but no scores accrued. The 3rd quarter was evenly contested though we kept our momentum with the lead at 3-15 to 3-12 at the three quarter stage. The decisive score came after 17 minutes as we got our fourth goal from a well taken Jordan Mc Donnell penalty. Points from substitute Nathan Corcoran and Dean Slevin put seven between the sides with seven minutes remaining. St Josephs were well on top at this juncture and a fifth goal settled the result in our favour as we ran out twelve point winners by the finish. It was a hugely impressive performance which considering our stuttering form recently comes as a timely and very welcome change of fortune. The main takeaway from tonight is our workrate which was excellent even in the early phases where things weren't working. Plenty of good displays with Jordi, Dean, Alan Conlon and Ros causing huge problems throughout. Noah & Mikey along with Ben,Aaron Dylan,Dan Keegan hoovered up loads of clean and broken possession. While the defence did well in a very open game with Denis,Pearse,Fitzy and Andy all doing well. Steven made a return to goals and substitutes Nathan Corcoran and Dylan Drake impressed when introduced.
From tracking back records, its a first Junior Championship win for us over Kilbeggan though results between the sides have been very even in recent years with a number of draws. The upshot is we lie on six points from four games, the same as Kilbeggan with a long way to go in what is a very open Championship so far.
