WEEK 2 | TRANSITION TO ATTACK

Winning the ball is only the start.

The real challenge is what happens next.

WIN IT → SEE IT → HURT THEM

Can we recognise the moment, support the ball quickly and attack before the opposition has time to reset?

This week inside Gaelic Performance Lab we’re looking at how players can turn regains into genuine scoring opportunities — without forcing the transition when the picture isn’t there.

First look forward.

React ahead of the ball.

Attack the unbalanced defence.

🎯 Can we attack them before they become a defence?

GOOD POSSESSION ≠ GOOD ATTACKING 🧠🏐

We often talk about keeping possession, creating width and moving the ball quickly.

But the bigger question is:
What are we actually trying to make the defence do?

For me, good attacking play is about players recognising the picture in front of them.
Can we move the defensive shape?
Can we create an overload?
Can we isolate a defender?
Has the moment arrived to pe*****te?
Or do we need to reset and ask another question?

That's an area I'm going to explore this week inside Gaelic Performance Lab

particularly how we can coach players to make these decisions through games rather than simply giving them patterns to follow.

💬 COACHES — what is the biggest issue you see when teams attack a set defence?
