π Most parents buy floats thinking they are helping their child. What they do not realise is that floats are quietly working against everything real swimming requires.
Here is what actually happens when a child relies on floats.
Floats hold children in an upright position. But real swimming requires a horizontal body position. Every minute spent in a float is a minute the body is learning the wrong thing. And the longer that continues the harder it becomes to unlearn.
Floats delay real swimming skills. Instead of learning how to balance and control their body in the water, children learn to depend on external support. When that support is removed the fear comes rushing back. Not because the child is not capable. But because they were never taught what their body can actually do on its own.
Children who learn with floats often have to start from the beginning all over again. The habits formed with floats are deeply ingrained. Relearning them takes time, patience and the right environment.
At Swim Max our instructors get in the water with every single child. No floats. No armbands. Just expert guidance, warm water and small groups so every child builds genuine swimming ability and real confidence they can rely on for the rest of their life. π
The difference between a child who loves the water and one who fears it is not talent. It is how they were taught from the very beginning.
