🖤💛 YOUTH BOYS SECURE DOUBLE VICTORY! 🏉
A fantastic Saturday at home for Letterkenny RFC’s youth boys, proudly sponsored by O’Gorman Cunningham LLP, with both our U18s and U16s recording victories over Virginia!
🏉 U18s: Letterkenny 23–21 Virginia
Our U18s returned from a two-week break to edge a thrilling top-of-the-table clash, reversing their defeat to Virginia in the season opener.
Tries from Jonathan Russell and Emre Gercek, both converted by Matthew Farrell, helped Letterkenny into a 14–7 half-time lead. Two Farrell penalties added to the tally, but Virginia fought back to take the lead late on.
With just two minutes remaining, Matthew stepped up from 30 metres out, well to the left of the posts, and landed a superb match-winning penalty! Nerves of steel from Matthew, who has now kicked the winning score in Letterkenny’s last two fixtures. 👏
A tremendous display of character, determination and defensive commitment against strong opposition.
🏉 U16s: Letterkenny 24–10 Virginia
Our U16s got back to winning ways with an excellent performance against a strong Virginia side.
Dylan Curley opened the scoring with a brilliant finish to a well-worked team move, before Tommy McMonagle added a second try, converted by Curley. Virginia responded, but Rohan Taylor crossed before the break to keep Letterkenny in control.
A penalty try followed in the second half after Patrick Keeney was illegally stopped in the corner. Despite a late Virginia response, the lads held firm to secure the victory.
A welcome boost ahead of next week’s top-of-the-table derby in Strabane! 💪
Well done to both squads and their coaches, and thank you to everyone who came along to support.
🤝 Proudly supported by our youth boys sponsor, O’Gorman Cunningham LLP.
