🚣‍♂️ What a day for our club at the Athy River Race! 🔥

On the 26th of April, we had a small but mighty crew head down to Athy to take on the river—Kris and Tadhg flying the flag for the adults, alongside our juveniles Cillian and Riley.

The racing was fast, the conditions kept things interesting, and the energy on the water was top class all day 💪

Huge performances from the adults, with Kris and Tadhg taking 1st and 2nd in the sea kayak devision 🥇🥈—a brilliant result and a great showing for the club!

Massive shoutout to Cillian and Riley who brought home our first ever juvenile medals 🏅🏅—an unreal achievement and only the beginning for these two!

Brilliant racing, great experience, and plenty to build on—onwards and upwards from here 🚀

🚲 Learn To Cycle is back! This cycling course for children and teenagers with additional needs will be taking place in Monread Community Centre, Naas.

ℹ️ This six week programme begins on Tuesday 21 April and costs €30. The course is aligned to Cycle Right, the National Standard for Cycle Training in Ireland, and is delivered by a qualified trainer.

Join us this Easter for a fun-filled girls-only kayaking camp in Monasterevin!

Designed for girls aged 8–17, this camp combines kayaking, games, safety awareness, biodiversity, and plenty of fun — all led by qualified, Garda-vetted instructors.

This initiative is part of our commitment to increasing female participation in kayaking. By creating a supportive and inclusive environment, we aim to help participants build confidence, develop skills, and feel comfortable progressing in the sport.

While running alongside our mixed camp, this programme is delivered as a separate group, allowing girls to learn and grow in an encouraging and empowering space.

Over the course of the camp, participants will:
• Build core kayaking skills and confidence on the water
• Learn essential safety skills and risk awareness
• Develop an understanding of water conditions and safe practices
• Connect with nature and explore local biodiversity
• Learn about pollution and how to protect our waterways

The Club would like to express its sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to Kevin Duffy on the passing of his mother Sadie (Sarah). May she Rest in Peace. Kevin has been a friend and supporter of our club since the very start. We are thinking of him and his family at this sad time.

So…this happened. We just won the National Canoeing Ireland Community Impact of the Year 2025 award. We’re all very proud of the achievement and grateful to everyone who helped us. It’s all about community for us. Special thanks to our secretary this year Helen Cole for submitting the application and for doing so much during the year. Thanks also to Canoeing Ireland and Kildare Sports Partnership for their ongoing support.

Congratulations to Eoghan Ó hUallacháin who became our new Chairperson at last night's AGM. We wish him all the best and look forward to the future. Also congratulations to Pat Hickey, who has become President of the Club - we wouldn't be where we are without you Pat, thanks for everything. In October, Pat handed over a medal to Eoghan for completing the Liffey Descent Marathon race. Last night he handed over the club.
