KDFL Masters Division 2
Longwood AFC 1 – 4 Monasterevin AFC 35s
Monasterevin AFC 35s produced an excellent away performance on Saturday to overcome Longwood AFC 4-1 and continue their impressive form with a dominant display from start to finish.
MAFC started brightly and opened the scoring after 11 minutes. A superb pass from left back Darren Siney found in-form striker Sean O’Driscoll, who made no mistake from close range to fire the visitors ahead.
Just two minutes later, Siney turned provider again. His excellent delivery released Glenn Binions through on goal and the forward calmly turned the Longwood defence before guiding his finish into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.
MAFC continued to create chances throughout the first half, with Ash McCrave going close on a number of occasions, only to be denied by Longwood goalkeeper Darren O’Rielly, who produced several fine saves to keep his side in the game.
The third goal arrived on 28 minutes when McCrave showed great vision to pick out Ali Long, who tapped home from close range to give MAFC a commanding 3-0 half-time lead.
Longwood came out with renewed determination after the break and reduced the deficit on 54 minutes through Ber McLoughlin after sustained pressure from the home side.
The response from MAFC was immediate, with both O’Driscoll and Rodrigo going close as the visitors looked to restore their three-goal cushion.
The game was finally put beyond doubt in the 58th minute with a superb team goal. The move began with goalkeeper Niall McAteer before Ali Long, operating at right back, delivered a brilliant 55-yard cross-field pass to Tommy Maloney. With one touch, Maloney fired a low ball to the penalty spot where Sean O’Driscoll met it first time and smashed an unstoppable finish into the top corner to complete a brilliant move and his second goal of the evening.
Top performers for MAFC included Darren Siney with two assists, Tommy Maloney who dominated midfield throughout, and Man of the Match Sean O’Driscoll with a clinical two-goal display.
For Longwood, goalkeeper Darren O’Rielly impressed despite the scoreline, while the ever-dangerous Philly Comerford was a constant threat going forward.
