The penultimate Preliminary Final team preview is 2nd seeds Galway Tribesmen , who recovered from a 5th place 2025 finish to being a lick of paint away from topping this year’s round robin…
Galway Tribes arrive at the Preliminary Final as arguably the competition’s most unpredictable side—but on their day, perhaps it’s most dangerous.
No team has produced more impressive away performances this season. The Tribes stunned reigning champions Banbridge Broncos with a commanding 70-30 victory on their own ground and also travelled to Longhorns RL to claim another statement win. Those results proved this is a side capable of beating anyone when they hit top gear.
Yet inconsistency has prevented them from finishing top. A home draw against Dublin City Exiles was an opportunity missed, while a dramatic defeat to Longhorns in their final fixture—after a last-minute conversion slammed off the post—means they enter the finals looking to rediscover their best form.
Captain Tyler Cotterill has led from the front all season, topping the club’s scoring charts with 34 points, while powerful centre Cam Carruthers has crossed for five tries. Keep an eye on Abdulhaq Abayomi, whose ability to break tackles and change a game in an instant makes him one of the competition’s most dangerous attacking weapons.
If Galway can reproduce the form that dismantled the defending champions, they’ll believe they can beat anyone. The question isn’t whether the Tribes have the talent—it’s whether they can produce it when it matters most.
