Shannen’s approach to Pilates is about so much more than exercise. For her, it’s a moving meditation that reconnects the body and mind.

Her classes combine mindful movement with a focus on:

✨ Building strength
✨ Improving mobility

✨ Using movement and breath to feel more grounded and connected

Alongside Pilates, Shannen’s background in meditation and yoga brings a calm and intentional approach to every class.

Base is so much more than just a gym
Everyone joins for their own reasons - health, fitness, strength, weight loss etc….

But they all stay for the same reason,
— the people, the community, the culture!!

The Mind-Muscle Connection: Why It Matters!

The mind-muscle connection is your ability to consciously focus on the muscle you’re training during an exercise.

Research suggests that intentionally directing your attention toward a target muscle can increase its activation during certain movements. This can be particularly useful for exercises where technique and isolation matter.

How to improve it:
Use a controlled tempo rather than rushing reps
Focus on the muscle shortening and lengthening
Use a full, comfortable range of motion
Reduce the weight if you’re struggling to feel the target muscle
Keep your technique consistent and avoid using momentum

For example, during a biceps curl, don’t just think about moving the dumbbell from A to B. Think about the biceps contracting as you curl and lengthening as you lower.

The goal isn’t simply to lift more. It’s to understand what you’re training and make each repetition intentional.

Better awareness → better ex*****on → better training quality.
