Senior Ladies Exit Championship but Show Great Resilience
Our senior ladies’ championship campaign came to an end this afternoon after a heartbreaking semi-final defeat to Killanny.
The team suffered an early setback, conceding two goals in the opening stages, which left them facing an uphill battle from the start. However, they showed great resilience to work their way back into the contest before half-time.
A Massive Second-Half Effort
The second half produced a tremendous response, with the team battling bravely to reduce the deficit to just two points with eight minutes remaining. Despite their outstanding effort and determination, they were unable to get over the line in the closing stages.
Killanny finished strongly and now progress to the 2026 Junior Football Championship final.
Experience and Youth Leading the Way
Captain Marion McCarville, Jenny Freeman, Leigha Freeman, Anita Tigue and Michaela Newell led with great experience, driving the team forward right to the final whistle.
The future remains bright for this youthful side, with players such as Katie Maguire, Katie McDonald, Ava O Hart, Sophia O’Hart, Erin Connolly, Ella Kieran’s and Substitute Sadhbh Bonner showing great heart and determination, particularly during the second-half fightback.
The team has also been unfortunate with injuries to key players, with several missing from today’s line-up. Even so, both the players and management can be very proud of their efforts.
They will now reset and focus on seeing out the remainder of the Junior Football League, with the aim of securing a top four finish and a place in the semi-finals.
