Calm in the chaos ๐ง
In sport, youโll often have two archetypes of players.
Worriers & Warriors ๐ฌโ๏ธ
All athletes are influenced by their level of arousal or performance anxiety going into a game.
Worriers perform best when their arousal is relatively low.
They thrive when the pressure is off but their decision-making and ex*****on is negatively affected in those moments that really matter to them.
Warriors donโt play their best when the game means nothing.
They need the pressure to perform.
They thrive in the chaos.
When all eyes are on them.
But we can affect our tolerance for pressure.
We can make scenarios more familiar by executing them more often in training.
We can constrain our training sessions to replicate the types of pressure weโll experience in the game.
Or we can focus on building a robust, growth mindset, improving our self-talk and thus reducing the pressure we put ourselves under on the field.
Reduce pressure = reduce level of arousal ๐
But then again, itโs probably best to do both.
Make training difficult and thrive in the game.
Build a mindset that helps you to do so.
