Castleisland Rugby Club Ametuer Rugby Sports club Castleisland Rugby Football Club was established in 1926.

The Rugby Club facilities, which comprise a Club house, dressing rooms and 2 full size pitches, one fully flood lit and all weather training area is located in the heart of Castleisland in an area known locally as the Craggeens. The Craggeens has been the Club’s base since 1991, when in the sixty fifth year of the Club the dream of many members came to fruition when the then president of the Muns

ter Branch officially opened the Dressing rooms and Grounds. Castleisland R.F.C is a Junior Club and today enjoys a large membership with Junior 1,& 2, Teams being fielded by the Club. Like all voluntary organisations the running and maintenance of such a splendid facility has a tremendous drain on financial resources, all of which are financed from Club Membership subscriptions, sponsorship and gate receipts. Fundraising events are organised throughout the year and support from the people of Castleisland and surrounding areas is always very much appreciated so that this excellent recreational facility can continue to provide the people of Castleisland with an opportunity to produce quality players. Our new season is now upon us and we now prepare ourselves for a battle to regain our Div 2 Status. Our Junior 2 side in competing in the South Munster Junior League section A which is mostly West Munster based, this team is made up of young and old and is a great benefit to the !st teams in the steady flow of players between both. As part of our facilities in the Craggeens we have 2 full-size pitches 1 floodlit pitch and an all weather training area which is proving to be a good success. and makes the management of the grass pitches a little easier We also have a flourishing Youth Section in the cub and have been very successful in recent times and hope to continue attracting many new recruits during the season . We would like to call on all Members, Patrons & Supporters to please as always try to support as many Local Business and sponsors as you can as without their ongoing financial support we could not maintain the Pitches and facilities let alone improve them.

Unfortunately it wasn’t our day against Abbeyfeale on Saturday 😔

We welcomed the team to the crageens for this season’s opening game of the McElligott Cup.

We got off to a positive start with a penalty from Donnacha McSweeney but Abbeyfeale were quick to respond with 2 tries over the next 10 minutes or so.

Matthew horgan snuck over the line after some strong carries from the pack but unfortunately we were unable to hold out the Abbeyfeale attack as they responded with another try to leave the half time score at 24-10 in favour of the away side.

We came out of the blocks well at the beginning of the second half, however a poor kick chase resulted in an Abbeyfeale line break which they converted clinically.

Calvin Swords got over the whitewash from a pick and go and when Colm Stack bundled over the line 5 minutes later there was a bit of hope for the island.

Unfortunately, as bodies tired Abbeyfeale managed to add another 10 points through a penalty break away try and conversion in the last few minutes to leave the final score 41 24.

Congrats to Ronnie Mallon and Aaron Nolan on making their first team debuts, we hope to have some more bodies back over the next few weeks as things ramp up towards thr beginning of the league.

Our sessions are about fun, friendship, building confidence and teamwork, in a safe and welcoming environment.

No previous experience needed, if your child has played before or is trying it out for the first time this season all are welcome
