Ametuer Rugby Sports club Castleisland Rugby Football Club was established in 1926.

The Rugby Club facilities, which comprise a Club house, dressing rooms and 2 full size pitches, one fully flood lit and all weather training area is located in the heart of Castleisland in an area known locally as the Craggeens. The Craggeens has been the Club’s base since 1991, when in the sixty fifth year of the Club the dream of many members came to fruition when the then president of the Munster Branch officially opened the Dressing rooms and Grounds. Castleisland R.F.C is a Junior Club and today enjoys a large membership with Junior 1,& 2, Teams being fielded by the Club. Like all voluntary organisations the running and maintenance of such a splendid facility has a tremendous drain on financial resources, all of which are financed from Club Membership subscriptions, sponsorship and gate receipts. Fundraising events are organised throughout the year and support from the people of Castleisland and surrounding areas is always very much appreciated so that this excellent recreational facility can continue to provide the people of Castleisland with an opportunity to produce quality players. Our new season is now upon us and we now prepare ourselves for a battle to regain our Div 2 Status. Our Junior 2 side in competing in the South Munster Junior League section A which is mostly West Munster based, this team is made up of young and old and is a great benefit to the !st teams in the steady flow of players between both. As part of our facilities in the Craggeens we have 2 full-size pitches 1 floodlit pitch and an all weather training area which is proving to be a good success. and makes the management of the grass pitches a little easier We also have a flourishing Youth Section in the cub and have been very successful in recent times and hope to continue attracting many new recruits during the season . We would like to call on all Members, Patrons & Supporters to please as always try to support as many Local Business and sponsors as you can as without their ongoing financial support we could not maintain the Pitches and facilities let alone improve them.

Castleisland/Listowel u16’s faced a strong and confident Corca Duibhne on Saturday morning last. A nice breeze and plenty rain in from the nearby Atlantic made for some trying conditions. With both teams trying to adjust to the conditions a lot of the play was centred around midfield. It was the visitors that settled in first with a well worked try finished with Darragh Lyons barging over the line carrying 3 RCD players on his back. A difficult conversion was to follow but it was no bother to outhalf Brendan Moriarty. Castleisland/Listowel started to find their groove now and after retaining the ball for several minutes Fionn Brown made a powerful run out wide to score the second try but unfortunately with the wind playing havoc the ball drifted wide from the conversion. It wasn’t all C/L though because RCD responded with a try of their own missing the conversion. With the score at 12-5 and only an minute left in the half Fionn Brown took it upon himself again with a powerful run and several hand offs to score again before the break. Halftime 17-5
With C/L tails up and memories of the last two games fresh in their minds we turned up the pace in the second half and after a couple of minutes in and a well worked backs move outstanding outhalf Brendan went in for a try of his own. Not to be outdone the forwards started to show their muscle with Michael o Connell powering over from 10 meters out. The rest of the game continued in this vain with Matt Davies scoring an excellent individual try from outside the halfway, followed by Brendan scoring his second and adding the conversion to boot. But RCD never gave up and scored a try of their own at the death with some strong carries. 🙌

Seniors welcomed Cobh to the Crageens Sunday afternoon in the league. Cobh opened the scoring with a snipe from their 9 off a line out, despite a promising start from the Island. Castleisland responded with a try of their own before half time from a tap penalty finished by Issac. Cobh had the brighter start to second half, with their nine sniping again this time off a ruck to leave the score at 14 - 5. The Island responded through Miguel, to bring the score back to 14-12. Castleisland pushed hard in the last 15 minutes, unfortunately Cobh broke away off a scrum and after a kick in behind, they scored in the corner and converted to leave the score 21-12 at full time.

Castleisland-Listowel U16s faced a strong Desmond Rugby side in Abbeyfeale on Sunday morning. Playing against a strong wind in the first half, we spent long periods defending as Desmond produced some excellent running rugby and led 20-0 at half-time.
Our players battled hard in the second half, but a number of injuries left us facing an uphill challenge. Desmond added two further tries to secure the win.
The game was played in a great sporting spirit. Thanks to Desmond Rugby for the food, teas, coffees and hospitality afterwards.

Castleisland/Listowel U14 played hosts to Killorglin/ Iveragh on Sunday afternoon.
Conditions were dry with a moderate breeze behind Killorglin/ Iveragh to start the game.
Castleislands defence was tested in the first few minutes with some big carries from Killorglin /Iveragh forwards, however it was Castleisland/Listowel to get on the scoreboard first, with a well worked forwards try scored by E. O’Sullivan.
Not to be outdone the Castleisland/Listowel backline made a turnover of their own on the halfway and with some outstanding offloads O. Larkin touched down.
T. Charlie converted.
Killorglin/Iveragh turned to their big men again and after what seemed a lifetime of battering the Castleisland/Listowel try line, they finally found a soft shoulder to get over the line. The 2 points from the conversion were also added.
The final few minutes of the first half saw both sides give everything in both attack and defence, S. Riordan was the man to get the final say after breaking through three tackles to get over the line.
T. Charlie converted.

The second half Castleisland/Listowel had the wind at their back, with the help of a strong bench they turned up the gears, from dominating the breakdown to making meters in every carry.
C. Magan was the first to get on the scoreboard with a well worked try, converted by T.Charlie.
T. Charlie a few phases later ripped a ball in his own half and took off on a blistering run to finish under the posts which he then converted.
Castleisland/ Listowels O.Larkin and C. Magan both crossed again after a late Killorglin/Iveragh try

The U16 girls travelled to play Dolphin RFC in Virgin Media Park on Sunday past. The Dolphin forwards where very physical with strong runners. Good defence and clever play to use our pace across the back line helped the girls to a well deserved win. Scoring for the girls was Roisin Cronin with three tries, Eibhlín McCarthy and Súin Sugrue getting two each and Leah O’Connor getting one but also setting up scores with some great runs and passing into space. Well done and thank you to all the girls for their efforts on the field and in training. Many thanks for all the travelling support.
Our next game is against Cobh in Killarney, this Saturday 31st October with a 1pm Kick off.❤️💙
